Alba, Allegra or Quinn?

I have just found out that I am expecting another baby Grin

We are settled on our boys name, but Alba, Allegra and Quinn are my favourite girls names. What do you all think?

Allegra Quinn would be lovely- Nice strong name, but still feminine :)

sonniebonnie · 03/11/2011 21:31

Allegra is beautiful. Alba is quite nice too.
Quinn, like Finn, is a boys name to my ears.

AnonyMaw · 03/11/2011 22:44

I think out of the three Allegra is my preference. Quinn seems more of a boys name, Alba I associate with Scottish politics, nationalism etc. also I think Alba sounds a bit masculine.

Quinn - seems more of a boys name to me.
Alba - as mentioned above, reminds me of a cheap (& nasty!) stereo I had when I was 10!
Allegra - not a massive fan either, seems a bit harsh.

Sorry!

I like Allegra best out of those names. Quinn sounds too much like a surname to me. Alba is OK but not the prettiest name (sounds too much like Albert maybe!), and personally I'm a bit put off by the Time Travellers Wife connection, as I didn't like it.

Quinn is a surname.

Alba makes me think of fat nuns. I know a few Albas and they are all porkers. It's short for Rosalba (Rosy Dawn) here.

Allegra is not too bad, but it's a bit Sienna-ish to me.

phlossie · 04/11/2011 16:29

Quim (sounds like Quinn. Obv - you worked that out) is a word for vag or (worse) vag juices. Quinn is the name of the penguin in 3rd and Bird, and there's pengi-quinn in Baby Jake. So it makes me think of penguins and vaginas.

I love Alba.

Isn't there a Vaxhaul Allegra? I quite like musical names, though.

Alba is fabulous.

Allegra is the name of an allergy medicine. It sounds like a car too. And very Sienna-ish, I agree.
Quinn is hardcore plastic Irish.

How about Ailbhe (Alva or Alvy are anglicised versions)

qkate · 29/11/2011 23:14

I absolutely love all of them, 3 beautiful names! I wouldn't be able to pick either.

daddoinghisbest · 29/11/2011 23:48

All three names are bad. Why name a child after a cheap hi-fi system or an antihistamine? As for Quinn; it wouldn't be so bad if the child was born 50 years old already. By the way, I know a couple who's son was born on St Georges day and appropriately named him george, then my sister had a son on St Patrick's day and called him Patrick. It seemed such a good idea I did the same when my son was born. Pancake's now 5 years old!

Allegra is my favourite!

I know a little girl called Quinn, known as quinnie.
We had considered Allegra when i was pregnant but it is a much advertised brand of allergy medicine here in the u.s. which put us off.

AberdeenAngusina · 30/11/2011 13:41

Saor Alba! is a political slogan (Free Scotland!) I like Albas, but I wouldn't use it in Scotland in case it was assumed to be politically motivated.

Quinn sounds good, but you'd have to be careful when writing it to keep the ns separate; it would be easy for it to look like Quim.
