Feel like I'm going round in circles trying to chose a name for our son.

Our daughter is Elizabeth and we love how it's ancient, traditional but not that comm

I really like both Benjamin and Max

Pictureframe22 · 25/10/2011 20:42

Arthur
Max
Benjamin
In That order although do like them all.

countessbabycham · 25/10/2011 20:46

Love Arthur the most (Art) but also love Max and Benjamin(Ben).

Although Art is a lovely shorter version I prefer Arthur in it's full form though.

Thank you. I'm finding it much harder this time round as I can see how close I came to getting my girl's name totally wrong!

And my husband has given up with me and my suggestions, I change my mind so often.

Benjamin is the only one I like out of those but if I had to choose I'd go: Benjamin - Max - Arthur.

Fixture · 25/10/2011 23:17

Max

Montsti · 26/10/2011 09:48

Benjamin -LOVE (gutted can't use it as Ben is my nephew's name...)

Maximilian - also like a lot

Arthur - like but not quite sure but am warming to it. Think it probably goes best with Elizabeth though. Both strong traditional names. Ben and Max are a little "cute" in comparison..in my humble opinion..

BedatHogwarts · 26/10/2011 18:55

Benjamin shortened to Benji is a great name.

I like Max but find the long version Maximilian a bit pompous and unnecessary. Maxim is better if you think just Max is too short.

Arthur I don't like. It's still too much of an old man's name, and not in a 'strapping 1st world war soldier' kind of way, more of a 'sat in an armchair dribbling beetroot down his string vest' way.

Violet5 · 26/10/2011 19:54

I vote for Benjamin too, and it's not at all because that's what we named our baby boy when he was born on Xmas Eve last year Smile

Nikki82 · 26/10/2011 22:20

Love Arthur !

ceebie · 27/10/2011 10:26

Ooh I have ancestors called Maximilian - from the 1800's!

LaTristesse · 27/10/2011 10:33

I love Arthur but be careful if you live somewhere it's likely to get pronounced with an F (yuck emoticon).

smellimelli · 28/10/2011 14:39

Max(well) and Arthur are both on our short list.

Personally I don't like Benjamin, what about Benedict (know a boy called this and friends shorten it to Ben)?

Love Elizabeth too- it's on our list for girls.

Psammead · 28/10/2011 14:51

Benjamin or Arthur.

Clary · 28/10/2011 23:16

I think you will find many many boys called Max at your son's school. There are at least 2 in most years at my DCs' primary school. Ditto to a lesser extent Ben.

OTOH there is one Arthur in the whole school (about 500 pupils). So if you like "not that common then it's Arthur. It's also my fave (very mcuh so) FWIW (not much obviously! Grin)

ceeceeanne · 30/10/2011 09:02

Love Arthur but isn't it getting trendy ?

mumofbumblebea · 30/10/2011 16:14

i love arthur but i think your other boys names are both lovely! i do know a lot of little Max's though. elizabeth is a beautiful name.

Clary · 30/10/2011 21:34

Arthur is supposedly getting trendy, but I work in a secondary school and there aren't any; I used to work in another secondary where there were none; and as I say there is one in my DCs' inf and junior school.

There are a lot more Maxs and Bens in all three schools (like, masses).

Arthur is riding the wave in that it no longer raises the eyebrow it would have 30- years ago; but your wee Arthur is still going to be the only one in his circle IMO. Like Elizabeth tbh.

gettingtogrips · 31/10/2011 20:26

Thank you very much for all replies. Still going round and round but I'm encouraged by the support for Arthur, that's my gut feel choice but also the one I'd have to be feeling bravest to go for.

Getting trendy would mean there are babies called it not boys in secondary school!

Clary · 01/11/2011 17:09

OK fair enough; but there might be some in primary, surely?

I don't know any baby Arthurs actually, tho I don't know as many babies as young children.

Anyway if you don't want a popular name, the fact that there are lots of 5-16yos with the name probably make it an unwise choice. At best (ie if babies are no longer called it) your DC will be 5 years behind the fashion.

msfallaway · 01/11/2011 19:33

Benjamin or Arthur

marshkat · 01/11/2011 19:59

max is great really different.

Takver · 01/11/2011 20:08

They're all good names, but there are always loads of Bens, definitely doesn't fall into the 'not that common' category (my DH is a Ben, and he has a lovely posed photo of all the - many - Bens from his year at college).

I like the Welsh name Macsen as an alternative 'long' name for Max.
