What do you think of Amyas for a boy?

Nine weeks to go and I hate everything else on my list which included Peter, Noah, Aaron, Henry, Adam

I liked Ivan but various naysayers have put me off

Already have a Daniel and Roman

My head hurts from thinking about names!

Is it Am-yass or Am-eye-ass? Or Am-ee-ass? OR does the S make a Z sound?

I prefer Ivan anyway. Daniel, Roman and Ivan sound lovely together imo. Would you like Isaac?

I think it's Am-yas - first came across it in an Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot tale and when I later saw the TV adaptation, I think they all pronounced it so and it stuck in my head.

I love Isaac but it's already been vetoed by dh.

Maybe I'll try to warm to Ivan again.

Probably the hormones but I'm feeling quite tearful about it all - poor little mite being saddled with a name that nobody loves

Not keen personally, and I think you'd have a lot of problems with spelling/pronunciation.

I love Ivan though, and I think it goes well with your other DCs names.

Personally I don't think it's very masculine, especially next to Daniel and Roman. How about Saxon?

I thought it was a miss spelling of Amy or Anya when I saw the title.

Norman. Very underrated name.

I knew one when we were in our twenties, he pronounced it Am-ee-ous (the 'ous' to sound like the 'ous' in delirious). As such, I am used to it, and can easily see it on a boy/man. I like it.

When I saw your thread title I thought it was a girls name. It sounds very feminine to me also.
Ivan is nice, or how about Ivor or Evan? I also like Peter from your original crop.

Obscure but the first thing I thought of was Amias - the brand name for candesartan, a blood pressure pill. Probably not a factor but I thought I'd mention.

I think of it s a very Mitford name (there's one in Don't Tell Alfred), but I've only seen it written and don't know the stress pattern in pronunciation.

How about : Alfred, Malise, Ambrose, Aubrey, Oberon, Arthur, Silas?

Glad you've decided against. Mythological Amyas famous for being flayed alive. Nice sounding name though.

meditrina, I love Ambrose but think it's a bit feminine and poncey for my current location in Northern Ireland

I was quite taken with Emrys on another thread which is apparently the Welsh version of Ambrose but dh has poo-pooed it

even now various family members mutter "poor Roman' and roll their eyes at the name he has been "lumbered with" - makes me a tad wary of having anything too unusual...

but then I can't find a more commonplace name that I love - it's so hard!
