French names, uncommon but not stupid?

DH and I are currently looking for a name for DC3, due next month. We already have two DSs Leopold and Ferdinand (Leo and Ferdy). I am Irish/English and DH is French and as well as loving a lot of french names, we think that a lot of european names sound good with our french surname without sounding (too) poncey! So here's our boy's list - what are your opinions?

Tybalt
Axel
Thiboult
Ivan
Jago
Bruno
Tino
Rocco

For girls however we are completely stuck! Can anyone suggest some names which we might like?

Claire
Isabelle
Lia
Sophie
Amelie

For boys, I like hyphenated names like Marc-Andre or Louis-Joseph but it depends on your surname!

I love Thiboult and Bruno. We have a Quentin which appears quite popular in France.

Heloise (can't do the accents, sorry)
Josephine
Alette
Amelie
Cordelie

I love French girls names but no idea which are fashionable in France or not. Love Severine, Amandine, Fabienne. Will think of more. I think Segolene is fantastic but suspect it is not cool?

LynetteScavo · 20/10/2011 21:35

I would say those names are European, rather than French.

Anyway, for girls Coco (Claudia/Colette)

Genevieve

I like all your boys names. Not sure I can help much with girls names - would names like Sylvia, Gabrielle, etc be too common - they're 'normal' but not that heavily used I guess.

ilianora · 20/10/2011 22:07

Elodie

collegedropout · 20/10/2011 22:18

thanks for the suggestions - any opinions on our boys choices?

I like Bruno, Thibault, Quentin and Rocco - all classic, underused names that work well in french and English imo.

Fixture · 20/10/2011 22:26

I like Ivan and Jago best of the boys' names.

jellybeans · 21/10/2011 00:02

Leonie
Elodie
Sylvie

Offspring · 21/10/2011 08:08

I like Ivan and Jago for a boy.

Girls - Delphine? Janine?

Marenostrum · 21/10/2011 14:54

Axel and Thibault my fave for boys, for girls how about Clélia, Cécilia, Marina, Elise, Anais, Romane, Inès, Manon...

BlueChampagne · 21/10/2011 14:59

We know a little Celeste.

treacletart · 21/10/2011 15:07

Clara, Camille

Booboostoo · 21/10/2011 15:20

Slightly off topic, but English names seem to be super popular in France at the moment, especially for boys! This summer alone I came across: Adam, Paul and Kevin toddlers!!!

yorkshiremummy75 · 21/10/2011 19:36

Thiboult is cute, how about Mathilde for a girl?

Rhubarbgarden · 21/10/2011 20:28

Odette? Ottilie?

Jeezimacasalinga · 22/10/2011 14:21

I think Thibault is correct spelling? (apologies if I'm wrong - I was an au pair many moons ago for a Thibault!) Apart from this can't see any French names on your list, but I love Axel and Ivan.

otisreading · 22/10/2011 14:51

Leo Ferdy and Lillian. Leo Ferdy and Ty (balt)

collegedropout · 22/10/2011 18:35

Really should have proof read before I wrote my OP!

Jeez, I did mean Thibault Blush opps.

Also I probably worded it completely wrongly. We both like french and european names so chose from looking at french name stats and also chose names from other european countries. However, if this time we have a DD we would like it to be a french name, and that's what we would like suggestions of.

Sorry to have caused some confusion!

dd2 is genevieve, everybody always comments on what a beautiful name it is, she however at 5yo and in y1 refuses to learn to spell it as it is too long and most grown ups spell it wrong, still love it though, she is genie for short.

Mollydoggerson · 22/10/2011 18:46

I love Axel.

crazynannawitchbitch · 22/10/2011 18:48

My (adult) dd is Simone...'tis a bit French [hsmile]

LikeABlackFlameCandleBNQ · 22/10/2011 18:49

One of my favourite girls names is French: Fabienne.

I looooove it. But, DH has vetoed it.
