I've only really thought of this name recently, but really like it now.

But do you think the city in Australia has ruined it a bit and it's like using Paris or London as a name?

Also SIL is convinced that Kate Middleton will use this? This is less important as I'd have got there first haha but I know impossible to tell but do you think likely as I think it's too Germanic.

Nice name.

I like it - and it was a proper 'name' before all the Paris/Chelsea place names.

My first thought is the Australian city I'm afraid. Next thought is Adelheid from the TV programme Heidi.

It's quite Royal and old fashioned sounding.

It's nice though and old but not an old lady name so not in fashion as the names like Ruby and Pearl.

First though was Marmelade!

MissPricklePants · 09/10/2011 21:43

Love it.

I love it - I think if it as a Royal name ahead if Aussie associations.

Etaoin · 09/10/2011 22:05

Lovely name but does depend on the surname. Have a friend called Adelaide Knight sounds like (had a late night).

Wouldn't worry about the city connotation. I always think of a kids' TV prog on in about ?1980 called The Strange Affair of Adelaide harris, one of those Victorian tales of a baby going missing. Don't remember much about it but was the first time I'd heard the name. I don't think I've ever met one, so she'd be much more memorable than all those Sophies, Evas and Rubies.

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/10/2011 23:26

I love it - it's a family name. One of my great aunts was called Adelheid Johanna and anglicised it to Adelaide when she moved to UK (and was called Aydel for short).

neddle · 10/10/2011 16:42

It is a royal name - there was a Queen Adelaide at the end of the 18th century, married to William IV.

I do love it though, probably would use it myself if I were expecting a girl.
