What do you think for a boy?

I don't like it. But I don't like that 'type' of name ie surnamey, slightly unisex names.

Wurg · 09/10/2011 13:50

It's quite common round my way. I don't live in a very nice area.

peeriebear · 09/10/2011 14:05

Really really common round here. Riley, Tyler, Jayden, Brandon. Stop a boy in the street and he'll be one of these!

comedaygoday · 09/10/2011 15:16

Surnames as first names, aren't my thing, so I don't really like it. However, if it helps, it does seem a boy's name rather than a girl's name.

picnicbasketcase · 09/10/2011 15:19

I don't normally like that kind of name, like FMW says above, it's kind of surnamey (like Mason, Spencer, Jackson etc) but there's a very sweet little boy at DD's nursery called Riley so I quite like it now. If that makes any sense.

I dont like it at all-it sounds like the sort of name to make a teacher wary.

aquashiv · 09/10/2011 20:33

Its my dogs name so I love it.

winkle2 · 09/10/2011 20:34

I know a boy Riley and a girl Riley.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/10/2011 20:36

I know a boy and a girl Riley. It's a Caiden, Jayden, Harrisson, Jaxon type of name.

talkingnonsense · 09/10/2011 20:39

Blimey O'Reilly.

mayanna123 · 09/10/2011 20:48

I don't know anyone named Riley, but if you like it op, then why not?

ShroudOfHamsters · 09/10/2011 21:15

Don't like I'm afraid. It's one of the surname type names that will date very, very badly!

Selks · 09/10/2011 21:20

I know a girl Ryley. I'm not too keen.

smartyparts · 09/10/2011 21:37

Chavtastic, I'm afraid

33goingon64 · 09/10/2011 22:15

It's not the name itself that's the problem, it's the fact that at this particular time it is perceived as chavvy by lots of people. In another era it would probably be seen quite differently. I quite like it and think you should use it if you like it.

mathanxiety · 09/10/2011 22:16

What Smartypants said. And Pranma too.

I know two digs named Riley, and it always makes me think of the in Fawlty Towers --
Sybil: 'O'Reilly, I have seen more intelligent creatures than you lying on their backs at the bottoms of ponds. I have seen better organized creatures than you running round farmyards with their heads cut off. Now collect your things and get out. I never want to see you or any of your men in my hotel again. '

Rhubarbgarden · 10/10/2011 12:46

Grin at Mathanxiety. Have to agree with the consensus.

DottyDot · 10/10/2011 12:47

Love it - makes me think of Riley from Buffy. But as we named ds1 after Xander in Buffy, it's no surprise I like it... Blush Grin

mathanxiety · 10/10/2011 21:33

Blush 'digs' = dogs.

scarlettsmummy2 · 10/10/2011 21:40

chavvy. I know two chavs who have opted for it!
