Names ending with 'er' or 'a'

I know I'm getting ahead of myself here as we're not pregnant yet, but I, DH, and DS all have names ending in er and a.

We know what we'd call a girl, but are stuck on boys names and would like to have some ideas.

Our names have have two syllables but that's not really important.

I didn't even notice what we'd done until DS was a few months old and his name ends the same way ours does, and think it would be kind of nice to keep that theme.

Any ideas?

I love Noah, but I know DH would say no to it because he doesn't like religious names (rules a lot out which is a pain)

DS's name is Sander, so Alexander and Lysander would also be out. Quite like Sasha. Not too feminine though?

Sasha/Sascha are definitely boys names across mainland Europe - they are both transliterations from Cyrillic of the traditional Slavic nn for Aleksandr.

Some others: Christopher, Peter, Uther, Arthur, Hector, Bela, Joshua, Micah, Ezra, Jedidiah, Dara, Viktor, Gregor?

Fabulous list MelinaM Smile

Oooh, Sasha would also fit with the reasoning behind DS' name, even though it would mean the same.

But I also like Uther

Some great ideas here Smile

Sasha is feminine to me, but only because DD is Sasha :). Either way I love it and also think it is a nice name for a boy. Although for some reason prefer the Sacha spelling for a boy.

As far as I know though (feel free to correct me!), Sander is a variant of Alexander - as is Sasha. Would it bother you that they come from the same name?

annasophia · 05/10/2011 14:26

In Germany the name Sascha is only allowed for a boy.

I think the French version is Sacha (as they pronounce the 'ch' as 'sh' like in le chat) and the English Sasha.
