Girl's name ending in "er" - nobody say Harper!

DH, inspired by the lovely weather, suddenly wants to name DD (due Monday) either India or Summer... I disagree.

However I can see that Summer goes well with our rather tricky last name by dint of the "er" ending, so am willing to consider any other "er" ending names. Trouble is can only think of 3 - Jennifer, Esther, Heather - all of which are already in use for close family/friends.

Don't like the more american variations like Harper, Rumer, even without the celebrity aspect. Any more suggestions/ammunition please?

Thanks all.

We're in Scotland so we do pronounce our rrrr's...

Funnily enough previously we were thinking of Clara, it never occurred to me that an "a" ending and an "er" ending could be thought of as the same!

Clara is a good name.

I was thinking Melissa if you don't mind the "a" ending.
Btw I like India especially if your child is likely to have dark hair/eyes.

If it is the surname that is being tricky, have you tried -el endings instead or -er. Lots of lovely names, eg Rachel, Hazel,

I was goin to say the same about the pronouncitaion mynameiselisaday. I am scottish and have an Amber which we pronounce Am-brrr, not Am-ba. It's a totally different sound to Mia, Anna, Emma etc. I have never thought of them sounding the same either!

mathanxiety · 02/10/2011 18:41

Irish here and I also pronounce my Rs and As properly as two different sounds.

I second the suggestion of Honor.

There's also Guinevere, Greer, Winter, Aster, Vesper, and Piper which I personally don't really like.

No but some people pronounce roser as rosa if that makes sense! So names like summer would sound like "sum-uh" or hester like "hest-uh".
