Chloe or Isobel?!? Popular girls names in your area...

Hi there, I'm currently 32 wks pregnant with DD2. I love both of these names but am definitely put off by their popularity (less so Chloe these days??) so...was wondering what are the most popular baby girls names in your area? Does it tend to be Evie/Ava Millie/Molly/Freya? DD1 has a name in the top 20 which is rising and we'd prefer to choose a name that isn't too popular. DH loves Chloe and I'm really not sure if we don't go with either of those! Love Elizabeth for a MN
Thanks! :)

There's no Chloes on ds class but there is Isabelles/Isabellas, 5 Ellies, a couple of Millies.

Capitaltrixie · 29/09/2011 12:13

Thanks again everyone :) big help

That's interesting Lillypie as dd1 is Poppy! (so it might be Poppy and Chloe) think Poppy is getting more popular. So wondering what area you're in..?
Ta othersideofthechannel - will take a look at the stats.

Chloe does seem to be popular from reception upwards to secondary school age but less so with babies.

Very good point stressheaderic, Chloe might well have had it's day so less popular choice in the next few yrs

The Isabelle variations do seem incredibly popular, definitely on for Chloe still. Everyone is being so nice! no-one has said anything neg about the name apart from it being fairly popular Grin

Chloe is a pretty name and if you like it you should have it.How popular Isobel was never crossed my mind it was simply who she was the moment I saw her Grin

I am in the SW btw

Crumbletopping · 29/09/2011 16:21

Chloe Elizabeth is beautiful; don't know too many.

Here we have lots of Evies, Mollys, Millies, and Lilys

GwendolineMaryLacey · 29/09/2011 16:24

Every little girl round here is Isobel, Ellie or Evie. Know one Chloe but she's about 8. It's a lovely name :)

HoldTouchEngage · 29/09/2011 20:47

Yes Isobel - very popular now in most places although i do quite like Chloe

Millie, Mia, Mya, Freya, Ava, Lily, and Amelia are v popular here!!

Capitaltrixie · 29/09/2011 22:34

Haha well if that is true StrandedBear, then I'm going to have my hands full as dd1 (18 mnths) is already very feisty..eeek! Bet your Chloe is lovely.

Think you're right Lillypie, with my first, she just was a Poppy when I saw her!

Thanks again everyone for your comments Smile both are lovely names but I think I'm pretty sold on Chloe

There were loads of Chloes around when DS1 (13) was born. Amongst friends of DD (7), I've only come across one, and I haven't encountered a little one for ages.

first1 · 30/09/2011 21:03

I love Chloe. But am biased as it's my 16month old dd's name Grin...as it happens though Isabelle was on our shortlist but of the 8 girl babies on the postnatal ward, 3 were Isabel/ol/lle!

justhayley · 02/10/2011 13:19

I love the name Chloe I'm hoping and preying I have a little girl so I can either call her Chloe India or India Chloe. I don't no any little chloes - although all my friends have had boys, my best friend (aged 28) is a Chloe and I know loads around that age, it's a classic name that I can't see dating and always will be pretty, nice for a child and an adult! I personally love it!

newmumma · 02/10/2011 13:37

I am confused - Olivia is meant to be most popular girls name in UK, but not one person has mentioned it..... where are all the Olivias? Has it become the Sharon or Tracey of this generation and therefore not mumsnetter type name?

Plonker · 02/10/2011 13:49

The most popular round my area at the moment, by far, are Eve/Evie/Eva/Ava, Isabel (and all its many variants) Ellie/Ella and Amelia.

There are also a fair number of Rebeccas, Charlottes and Mias too.

Chloe is popular amongst dd1's friends (age 11), but I don't know of many younger Chloes.

Both lovely names.

33goingon64 · 02/10/2011 20:45

Well I am biased as I am a Chloe myself - I didn't meet another Chloe of any age until I was at university and have only met 3 ever. Don't know any children or babies called Chloe. I used to hate it cos I always had to spell it and got called Zoe a lot. But love it now! And it means 'little green shoot in spring time' which is cute.

Capitaltrixie · 03/10/2011 12:30

ah yes first1 - that would put me off too if there were 3 others in the same ward!

They're lovely names Justhayley!

Newmumma, I only know one Olivia who is 10yo, no babies or toddlers at all..where are they?!!?
and great to know you love your name 33goingon64 Smile

Right, that's it then..settled on Chloe Elizabeth, roll on 23rd Nov (or thereabouts!), thanks so much everyone who has posted!! Grin

I personally love my name Chloe, and I know a few Chloes, but the popularity has died down a little. And Isobel is the most precious name, I love it! Evy is my little cousins' name, short for Evelyn and I love it! Some popular names here is Gretchen, Catie, Kate, Laylah, Sophie, Sophia, Lauren, Zoey, and Bella.

ashesandfire · 20/06/2015 19:55

Most popular names where i am seem to be Isla, Isabelle/Isobel/Isabella/Annabelle, Sophie, Evie, Ella, Ellie, Olivia.
I do love Isobel though and prefer it to Chloe.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 20/06/2015 20:01

Isabella/Isabel etc
Amelia
Jessica
Evie
Sophie

I know one Chloe who is about 3

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/06/2015 20:58

The three year old Chloe could be the OP's daughter Grin

EmmaWoodlouse · 22/06/2015 21:08

There are lots of Isabel(le)s in my local primary school but no Chloes below year 6. To me this would actually be a point in favour of Isabel because if someone has a name that went out of fashion just a few years ago it can make them seem a bit old-fashioned later in life - like a 40 year old Linda or Carol!

Indantherene · 23/06/2015 20:30

chlo13 have you joined MN just to reopen old baby name threads? Enough already.

The child the Op was wanting to name will be starting school next year Shock I expect she has a name now.

toobreathless · 23/06/2015 20:39

We know a few Isobel but no Chloes under 10 yrs at all.

Popular names around here:
Lily Lexi, Mia, Matilda, Poppy, Isla.

swancourt · 25/06/2015 09:03

I live in the green commuter belt. I have an Isobel. There are no others in her preschool of 60 children. There has never been another Isobel/Isabelle etc in any of her nurseries. Occasionally we hear the name in the park. But that's only been a handful of times.

Just checked the ONS statistics. There were 698512 babies born in 2013. 6793 of them were named Isobel, Isabel, Isabella or Isabella (and only 615 with the spelling 'Isobel').

So roughly 1 in 1000 babies were called Isobel or a variant of it. So 1 in 500 girls. So when people say 'she'll be one of five in her class', they're basically being mad.

Go for the name you love - Chloe and Isobel are both gorgeous :)

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 25/06/2015 10:41

The only kids who share a name in ds class are izzy and Isabella.
There are dozens of them in the school!
A couple of Evies.
Quite a few Ella.
Similar number of Millie and Molly...
Only know of one older Chloe.
Just seen Amelia listed above. Loads of those too.

bluejeanswhiteshirt · 25/06/2015 10:46

I only know adult Chloes. Chloe Elizabeth sounds beautiful.

The most common names where I live are-

Poppy
Lily
Isabelle
Millie
Layla
Evie
Eva
Ava
