Persephone?

OK she's the greek goddess of the underworld but I think this is really pretty

What would it get shortened to though? Percey? Seph? Penny?

Plenty of little boys are called Hector...to bully etc etc. I won't worry about the meaning, it's a pretty name.

I do like Percey but it's quite 'old school' in a cool chic way (imho)

Well, as nice as Persephone is (and Sephy a cute nickname), I think the meaning would put me off.

And I would never name a child Hector (Bully/Tormentor) or Claudia (disabled/lame) for that reason too.

Plenty of other lovely names with nicer meanings .

It's pretty though, with nickname Sefi.

Could have any of the nn; chose your favourite and so with it. People will then pick up on the one you use.

Once at school others may use others but I am sure your DD would let them know if it was a form she didn't like.

On Holby City the Persophone on there was shortened to Penny. I quite like Sephie.

If I have another girl I'll be using Persephone. My daughter has decided that she'll be called Posy or Polly for short. Coincidentally the other name mentioned as being of a similar feel is my daughter's name!

That's funny I know a Persephone and a seraphina (different families) and both of them have nn sephy (don't know how they spell it - that could be wrong!).

As I understand it, in Greek mythology, she is associated with spring and regrowth (rather than death) as she had to stay half the year in the underworld, then could live on earth for the rest of the year (like plants dying off in winter and regrowing in spring). In Roman myth she is called Proserpina, and DG Rossetti created a very beautiful picture called Proserpine - that picture alone is good reason to use the name!!! I think Seph or Sephy would be lovely nns.

Love this name soooo much, but DH has completely vetoed! I met a girl called Persephone when I was about 11, and she was older and beautiful and I was in awe, and have loved the name ever since.
