Before I hack my own head off, never mind my awkward DH's. If I don't choose a name soon I may explode with fury!

Can I ask....are you and DH sold on all three and simply finding it hard to choose between them, or is there one of the three you love/he hates or he loves/you're indifferent etc?

If you had to choose this instant, what would you go for and what about DH? If it is the same (which I am guessing not) then you have your answer. Or alternatively keep those three and when baby arrives see which seems the most natural.

OP, why are you so keen to please others (i.e. us, a random bunch of internetters Grin). Choose the name YOU love most.

ExpensivePants · 13/09/2011 13:30

Firstly, that's the problem, I don't love any of them. The name I love has been banned by DH. In turn, he loves Lydia. I used to, now I just 'like' it. the same as I just like all the others.

As for the pleasing others, er..well, with DD it was simple, we both loved her name, it was sorted 3 minutes after we left the anomaly scan. We can't agree on others. DH likes Lydia and, more recently Emilia. I like Emilia but the A/E thing and popularity of Amelia does bother me.

If I could choose, at this precise moment....Georgia. He thinks it's a bit meh. Hence why we're going round in circles.

oh i see. Well maybe do you have time to take a break from it? Not discuss it for say a period of two weeks. Perhaps in that time your goals (for both of you) should be whether to discount Emilia (and really decide how much the A/E ambiguity bothers you), see whether you can fall back in love with Lydia again, and whether your DH can learn to love Georgia. If you can both get to a stage where you both love Lydia and Georgia, then simply pick the one she is best suited to when she arrives. Of course if you can't then I am out of suggestions! I suppose you could also use that time to come up with another batch of names (not too many) but it is worth a try. Good luck!

I like Georgia, however I know a girl called Emilie which is pronounced Eh-mee-lee instead of like Emily or Amelie, which I think is a little bit more unusual

IthinkIamUndecided · 13/09/2011 22:45

Lydia.

Rhubarbgarden · 14/09/2011 07:45

Lydia. I loathe Georgia.

mayanna123 · 14/09/2011 10:06

Georgia is a state in the US and I'd only name my child after that if I had some connections to ti (e.g. if she was conceived there for example).

Emilia/Emily/Amelia/Amelie - too many of them around already imo.

Lydia is the nicest - pretty but underused.

Moulesfrites · 14/09/2011 10:20

But the state was Named after king George, wasn't it? The name came first, not the state, same as Carolina, Virginia (after the virgin queen), Louisiana etc.

I like Georgia best fwiw.

Emilia prerty but Amelia confusion annoying, and Lydia a bit harsh sounding for my liking.

ExpensivePants · 14/09/2011 11:37

I'm pushing for Georgia. He's thinking about it... Except that he told me last night he dislikes it more than he dislikes Verity (the name I really love) and he hates Verity!

I think we've disconted Emilia, it would annoy me too much. So, it's between Lydia and Georgia. Ho hum.

Lydia.

Emilia is too much like Amelia, which is pretty but currently over-used imo. Not Georgia.

Hedwig3 · 14/09/2011 14:51

Sounds like he may be warming to Verity!

Tread carefully and you may find he decides he likes Verity once it has become his idea (if he is anything like my DH)

Keep mentioning Georgia and other names he doesn't like and wait... Brew

OK, how about Madeleine? Having a look back through some older threads on here it gets a mixed reaction. Would people really think of the McCann association? I wouldn't (I think of Moonlighting Blush) but it seemed some posters did. That wouldn't stop me using it if I liked it though.

Georgia.

Lydia sounds a bit uptight to me!

I have a cousin called Emilia and people are always calling her Amelia. I think having to correct it all the time is becoming a pain to her and her parents. Hoever it is a lovely name if you can live with that.
