I first thought of this name when I was pregnant with DS1, loved it still with ds2 , now I am sure that this one is going to be a DD ( probably deluded...) but I wonder whether it is a bit too popular now?
Thoughts please?

LOVE it.

dreamer79 · 05/09/2011 09:44

If you've always loved it then go for it! If you didn't use it because it was popular (which I don't think it is) you would regret not using it every time you heard the name!

tiddleypompom · 05/09/2011 09:44

My DH grandmother's name - absolutely love it (agree it wouldn't have suited your DSs though :o )

diarama · 05/09/2011 09:51

Another one who loves it! I've got one, actually!

My Elsie is almost 5, starts reception tomorrow! She's the only Elsie in school and there's only been 1 other in the last 10 years at her school. All the teachers commented on it when we went for induction day.

We've not met another child called Elsie yet, although I do 'know of' a couple, so I don't think it's too popular at all.

toomuchpurple · 05/09/2011 09:53

If you have always loved it then use it (it is lovely)

mrsrvc · 05/09/2011 09:54

Thanks. Amazed at the positive response from MN!
DS's names are also old fashioned so it goes really well and dh seems positive about it still ( generally his girl suggestions are sarah, elizabeth, victoria.. all too reminiscent of my school years.. )
I think it will remain top of the list for if this one is a girl. Now just to think of a boy option...

Its a lovely name and not too popular at all I don't think. How is it pronounced out of interest? I think I've heard of it pronounced El-eese and El-see.

mrsrvc · 05/09/2011 09:59

I would pronounce it El-see.
Thanks

We pronounce it El-see.

I was shocked to find different spellings of it! My Elsie's dance teacher has been teaching for 30 years and has taught an Elsy and a Elsay in that time, both pronounced Elsie, apparently.

CurwySwide · 05/09/2011 11:57

I think it's lovely

oohlaalaa · 05/09/2011 12:55

Dislike. I just find it an ugly sound, and don't like the old lady names. I like Elise though.

MelinaM · 05/09/2011 14:13

Lovely nameSmile

Cereal · 05/09/2011 14:53

Elsie is a nice pretty name.

I would have thought "El-eese" would be Elise, not Elsie?

FleurTing · 05/09/2011 23:04

My grandmother`s name, so sounds old ladyish to me. I much prefer Elise, which is similar but much prettier IMO.

usualsuspect · 05/09/2011 23:12

Awful old lady name

ChippingIn · 05/09/2011 23:15

The last time I heard anyone being called Elsie - her surname was Tanner Grin

OddBoots · 05/09/2011 23:19

I had a Great Auntie Elise, it was only when she died we found out she was a Elizabeth. I love the name.

DessieLou · 05/09/2011 23:50

I like Elsie but a more modern version may be Elsa.

Kaekae · 18/09/2011 11:19

I like it but I think of it as a maids name for some reason.

soymama · 18/09/2011 11:24

Elsie is lovely

Cute For A baby

Shortened to El in teenage years

Back to Elsie in time for a longterm career in law!

virgiltracey · 18/09/2011 11:26

I was going to have elsie if DS2 was a girl. Really love it. Its very pretty.

lchodge · 18/09/2011 12:50

Old lady name to me. Don't think it's popular at all though Elise certainly is.

Murtette · 18/09/2011 21:10

How about Elizabeth (which will please your DH) with Elsie as a nn? Then she can change it if it does feel too little-old-ladyish but if you introduce her to nursery, primary school etc as an Elsie it should stick for a while at least.

winkle2 · 19/09/2011 12:49

I prefer Elsa

Rhubarbgarden · 19/09/2011 12:56

Lovely. Don't know any.
