I first thought of this name when I was pregnant with DS1, loved it still with ds2 , now I am sure that this one is going to be a DD ( probably deluded...) but I wonder whether it is a bit too popular now?
Thoughts please?

LOVE it.

If you've always loved it then go for it! If you didn't use it because it was popular (which I don't think it is) you would regret not using it every time you heard the name!

My DH grandmother's name - absolutely love it (agree it wouldn't have suited your DSs though :o )

My Elsie is almost 5, starts reception tomorrow! She's the only Elsie in school and there's only been 1 other in the last 10 years at her school. All the teachers commented on it when we went for induction day.

We've not met another child called Elsie yet, although I do 'know of' a couple, so I don't think it's too popular at all.

DS's names are also old fashioned so it goes really well and dh seems positive about it still ( generally his girl suggestions are sarah, elizabeth, victoria.. all too reminiscent of my school years.. )
I think it will remain top of the list for if this one is a girl. Now just to think of a boy option...

Its a lovely name and not too popular at all I don't think. How is it pronounced out of interest? I think I've heard of it pronounced El-eese and El-see.

I was shocked to find different spellings of it! My Elsie's dance teacher has been teaching for 30 years and has taught an Elsy and a Elsay in that time, both pronounced Elsie, apparently.

Dislike. I just find it an ugly sound, and don't like the old lady names. I like Elise though.

I would have thought "El-eese" would be Elise, not Elsie?

My grandmother`s name, so sounds old ladyish to me. I much prefer Elise, which is similar but much prettier IMO.

The last time I heard anyone being called Elsie - her surname was Tanner

I had a Great Auntie Elise, it was only when she died we found out she was a Elizabeth. I love the name.

I like Elsie but a more modern version may be Elsa.

I like it but I think of it as a maids name for some reason.

I was going to have elsie if DS2 was a girl. Really love it. Its very pretty.

Old lady name to me. Don't think it's popular at all though Elise certainly is.

How about Elizabeth (which will please your DH) with Elsie as a nn? Then she can change it if it does feel too little-old-ladyish but if you introduce her to nursery, primary school etc as an Elsie it should stick for a while at least.
