Hunter.

DH loves it. I actually do like it too, but living in ruralish England think everyone will think we are bloody bonkers.

Love it

Trying too hard.
I am American, btw, so wouldn't hold that against you Wink.
There are so many NICE names to choose, instead.
Totally different if you said it was a family name, then I'd think it was quite a cool choice.
Do you actually like hunting, is it something you want your child to be like, a predator?

LydiaWickham · 05/09/2011 12:04

People will say "like the wellies?" or "Like that bloke from gladiator who shagged Ulrike Johnnsen?" depending on their age. When you'll get the jokes and hassle from the name for the first few years, it's his name for the rest of his life.

Please, please give him a sensible middle name he can use for job interviews/when trying to chat up a girl.

LaWeasel · 05/09/2011 12:04

I do like it, we're not American but like American names, I come from another culture where hunting is very normal/acceptable so that doesn't bother me at all.

It bothers me that I don't think it suits England so other parents will judge, and that DS will get teased if he has a spotty gangly geeky puberty. (Obviously totally possible) But DH doesn't seem to think about anything past 'I like this name' Hmm

DD has a very ordinary name as well.

I quite like Cunter actually. At least then you have got in first with the rude word, plus it's unique.

LaWeasel · 05/09/2011 12:05

The middle names are already chosen and are very ordinary.

I immediately think of Hunter Tylo who I think is absolutely beautiful. But she is a female :)

ImpyCelyn · 05/09/2011 12:10

ROFL at Cunter, fab name.

ragged · 05/09/2011 12:11

If you like it then go for it, OP.

AitchTwoOh · 05/09/2011 12:13

Cunter is growing on me too...

LaWeasel · 05/09/2011 12:17

Excellent

Although to be honest, I went for the more innocent 'munter'

Makes me think of gladiator firstly.

I also had a friend who called their dd this (Americans living in USA).
I was Shock they hadn't thought about the possible Hunt/Cunt/Cunter nickname. Particularly as their surname (a traditional Scottish name but unfortunate in these modern times) teamed with that was totally cringeworthy and made me think she was destined for a life as a porn star with a name like that.

TheBride · 05/09/2011 12:19

Shagged Ulrika I think

sherbetpips · 05/09/2011 12:26

I am guessing he isnt a labrador? I wanted to call our son Darcy. DH looked it up in a book and it apparently means spawn of the devil..... We didnt go with it.

AitchTwoOh · 05/09/2011 12:27

oh do say she's called Hunter McGillycuddy....

ShoutyHamster · 05/09/2011 12:53

I like it actually, but think you might end up regretting it.

How about Heath? Now that is an amazing name.

oohlaalaa · 05/09/2011 12:54

Gladiators!!

Notnapping · 05/09/2011 12:56

Tbh I'd think wellies!

MmeLindor. · 05/09/2011 12:59

I know a Hunter. American colleagues of DH.

I actually quite like it but don't think I would have used it.

Cunter, on the other hand...

gillybean2 · 05/09/2011 12:59

AitchTwoOh - not even close. I PM you the actual name...

AitchTwoOh · 05/09/2011 13:01

my eyes are actually BOGGLING! i cannot freaking well BELIEVE that. that is one of the trickiest surnames on the planet and they teamed it with hunter/munter/cunter. omg!

ItsMeAndMyPuppyNow · 05/09/2011 13:05

Has to be Farquhar, then!

SecretSquirrell · 05/09/2011 13:05

It's a type of horse or welly.

Absolutely great if you're a country pursuits type, totally wanky if you're not.

AitchTwoOh · 05/09/2011 13:07

it is not farquar, but it is absolutely in that ballpark. but worse. don't guess, though... just in case.

carpetlover · 05/09/2011 13:16

It's not Hunter MacDuff is it?

Anyway, to me it sounds American in the way that names like Chad do. But DD1 has two Rorys in her class, one is English and is a boy and the other, a girl, has American parents. They have said that Rory is a very popular girls name in the States, much more than for boys.

But, it's your child and it's an accepted name, regardless of taste so really personal taste rather than abuse territory like if you wanted to call him Arsehole or some such!
