Names that are so popular you are fed up with hearing them please!

Hi - asking for your sensible suggestions please!

My friend and I make name plaques and signs and things for children and around the home and we usually make them to order - hence we often make them with unusual names.

We also do the occasional craft fair and most of what we sell are "one-off" pieces and not personalised but we're considering making a whole load of name plaques that people can buy on the day, rather than having to make an order and wait for their plaque to be made/sent. I also think people are more likely to buy if they can walk away with their plaque there and then.

So! We're wondering which names will sell best?! Most popular in recent years? Shall we make lots of Jacks and Olivias etc?

Can you tell me what names you've heard a lot of recently?? If it helps, we're in the South of England!

Plus, we currently hang them with ribbon or wire but would look to make these all the same - so what would your preference for a name plaque be, ribbon or wire?

(I have two boys - very with a very popular name (Harry) and one with a more unusual name (Jago) - I find things for Harry everywhere ....

Any ideas of advice please? Thank you!

I think the statistics are only a vague guidline and, even asking people what names they are hearing alot of is not really accurate. It depends where you live.

In my recent experience it is any form of Isobel, Gabriella and Eve. Ella is probably up there at the top.

I wouldnt like to say about the boys as the classics are always popular.

BTW, they are all nice names.

mrsravelstein · 27/08/2011 12:10

vividgingerchilli · 27/08/2011 12:14

Wire would be v. dangerous if they managed to get it in their mouth. Ribbon, but short enough not to go round a neck.

gorionine · 27/08/2011 12:21

Where we live (London) every other boy is called William or Thomas.

The girls go by Isabella, Eva and Ava.

I have never yet met a Jack but apparently there are a lot of them about.

BarnMummy · 27/08/2011 22:18

DS1's class last year (28 children in reception and Y1) had 3 Poppys and 4 Samuels, while DS2's toddler group has 2 Samuels and 2 Joshuas out of about 10 children. We're in the south east.

jellybeans · 28/08/2011 13:42

they sound lovely. I have a lovely one with all my children's names on and there is wire to hang it up which has a ribbon (bow) in the centre of the wire. Popular names in my area for babies/toddlers are..

Charlie
Alfie
Darcey (a few dif spellings though)
James
Thomas
Matthew
Alex/Alexander
Isabelle
isabella
Ellie
Grace
Jack
Daniel
George
Mia
William
Jake
Jacob
Lucas
Luke

BerthaLovelyBertha · 28/08/2011 13:50

The ones that are very popular here are:

Eve/Eva/Ava/Evie
Grace/Gracie/Gracie-May
Lily
Harriet/Hattie
Isabelle/Isobel

Theo
William
Jack

There seems to be more very popular girls names than boys names. I think Grace is the most popular, it seems every 4-5 year old girl around here is a Grace, Gracie or Grace-May!

survivingsummer · 28/08/2011 21:26

These are seemingly the most popular names around here at the moment:
Girls:
Ella/Ellie
Evie/Ava
Erin
Anything with -Mae hyphenated

Boys:
Charlie
Sam
Archie
George
