Edward/Teddy is my favourite, goes well the middle names and not quite as old-fashioned as Hector or Albert

edward james gets my vote

Do you know the meaning of Hector? It means bully/tormentor and to hector means to bully. Not a nice association imo.

I like Albert most.

comedaygoday · 25/08/2011 15:14

I like Hector the best. There's one at DS1's nursery. I think it's an interesting and relatively unusual name and think the fact that the original Hector was a hero of the Greek /Trojan war isn't a bad precedent.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 25/08/2011 15:22

Another Hector or Edward person here. I don't know why, but I really don't like Albert or any of its NN.
FWIW, if Francis is your surname, you may want to ask to have it removed.

katherine2008 · 25/08/2011 15:26

Thanks for your help. Francis isn't my surname - it would be a second middle name. I do know what the meaning of the verb 'to hector' but it doesn't put me off. Having just watched The Hour on BBC2 I just have visions of Dominic West...

Edward definitely. Albert next best. Don't like Hector.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/08/2011 15:36

I love them all. That doesn't help, does it? Grin

katherine2008 · 25/08/2011 15:40

I think that I'll have to wait for him to arrive. We changed DD's name as soon as we saw her...

I think that's the way to do it. I'm always surprised on here at the amount of people who have a name set in stone before they meet their baby. What if it doesn't suit them?

katherine2008 · 25/08/2011 15:47

DD definitely doesn't suit her intended name - having said that we did think she was a boy (we did have a girl's name for her obviously..!).. and funnily enough, we don't like any of our boy's names any more so won't be using them for this baby. Funny how 3 years changes our minds!

scarlettlips · 25/08/2011 17:05

Edward (not keen on Teddy) Ed or Eddie much stronger imo.
Hector
Alfred

In that order!

Jojay · 25/08/2011 17:08

Edward, but please, not Teddy - cutesy and awful imho. Ed or Eddie is a much better nickname,

Love Edward, but hate Teddy. Maybe OK when he is a tiny baby but after that it's not my cup of tea.
Hector sounds as if you are trying a bit too hard somehow.....

proudfoot · 25/08/2011 21:00

Edward James Francis

Absolutely lovely name, and Teddy is a fab nickname also
