Would you give your child the same name as a close relative's cat?

Our cat died a week after our DD was born and before we had registered her birth. I really wanted to add the cats name as a second middle name as a tribute, thankfully my DH talked me out of it! I blame my hormones!

I wouldnt my db had a dog called bella and I wanted bella bor dd but just couldnt, the dog had passed away a while before dd was born tho, also a friend named her dog after my dd, I was definatly about that.

however saying that I know a child with same name as his grannies dog, a bit wiered but people get used to it.

Tbh we're considering naming our baby with the same name as one of our pet rats. It's a pretty name.

We have just given our DD the same name as a friend's dog. Just because we really liked the name & don't see that much of the dog anyway . DS2 did have a "but we can't name the baby after X's dog" moment, but that thankfully past quite quickly.

Er yes we did.. DD has the same name SIL's cat and it's not a lovely proper girls name like Lucy either. They thought we were mad.

Well my mum named her dog Rosie........I am known as Rose to most people so that was a bit odd. She didn't see the issue but when I am home the dog and I often share a confused look when mums calls one of us and we aren't quite sure which one she wants!

I don't see the problem especially not as its a very traditional girls' name. Not like calling her Spot or Sooty or something.

Deceased cat was Eira - my favourite Welsh girls name that I thought would just be too Welsh to use on a child for the sake of my painfully English parents. Eira is on the list for a theoretical DD now! Current cats have 'people names' and middle names - but I do tend to call them fatface and fluffbuttocks, neither of which I'd consider for DC.

We did!! lol without knowing. Called our ds Solomon and my godmother/auntie has 2 cats called Solomon and Gideon, i knew about Gideon but had forgotten about Solomon. She commented on it but don't think anyoe else took much notice. Altho, if I'd have known i may not have done but love his name now.
I have a friend who called baby same name as her own cat as it was her fave name and subsquently changed cat's name!

We did it the other way around. DTs were 12 when we got the cat, we named her Tess, but if we'd ever had another daughter that would have been her name!
