Not to my taste, but I don't think it's bad.

Put it this way - i would veto it if DH suggested it, but would probably say 'lovely name' if a friend chose it.

I feel the same way as TillyIpswitch - I wouldn't choose it for a daughter of my own as it is not to my taste, but I do think it's very pretty

A very good friend of mine has a daughter called Saffron and it still hasn't grown on me. I hate the abbreviation Saffy as well

Its probably too far in the past now but she always got asked if she liked Ab.Fab.

I think for me it comes into the same bracket as Clementine etc...nice enough but quite faddy. Also don't really like the nn.

I do however like Saffy.

I like it. And I like Saff/Saffy as nicknames.
Even though it is relatively popular, I think it is still a bit unconventional, so maybe that is why your DH isn't keen. Is he more of a traditionalist?

I can't understand the 'faddy' comments. In 2008 142 babies were named Saffron. The following year this fell to 109 babies being given the name and then it rose slightly to 123 babies in 2010. So actually the name is being used less often than it was 3 years ago.

It's certainly not as 'faddy' imo as Arabella which has risen 97 places between 2008 and 2010. 138 babies were named Arabella in 2008 compared to 218 in 2010. Similarly India rose 81 places between 2009 and 2010 with 58 more babies being given the name than the previous year.

Granted Clementine did rise 107 places last year, however in reality this only amounted to 22 more babies being given the name - hardly a 'fad' imho.

I know a Saffron (nn Saffy) and she's lovely. So, because of her, I like it.
