Dh ruins all of my baby name plans here is my list if he had no say for a Ds I would have a Hugo or a Jesse we mostly agree on girls names but I love Fleur and he despises it.

What would you call your baby if you had free rein?

DS - Valentine and DD - Tallulah. Clearly I shouldn't even be allowed to name the pets on my own.

magicmelons · 18/08/2011 19:27

Super I LOVE Esme, its my cousins name though although nobody calls her it they use a nn instead. It would definitely be on my list Sad. I wouldn't associate it with Twilight not like Edward or Bella.

Schrodinger why are you compromising with a name you don't like, that's not a compromise. We compromised on DDs name, chosen by dh after she was born, really wasn't sure about it at first but love it now.

Didn't mean that to be as harsh as it sounds Schro Blush

Didn't sound harsh at all. :)

And I really have no idea, it seems I can't compromise on any other name as anything he likes I hate as they are all far too common or strange.

I mean, there's been Jesus, Zeus and every bloody Greek name you can think of. Angry And he told me he would get bullied for Caspar!

Exact words, "you can have it as a middle name". I just don't know how to compromise properly with him as his suggestions are either so bland or surreal.... :(

superjobee · 18/08/2011 19:46

i liked esme for the bc, emmy as a nn but nooo :( but i did say no to everything he came away with, he choose a boys i liked and we settled on a girls, luckily its a DS we are having as i was uncertain on our girls name as i liked erin and esme so much

pink4ever sebastian , tristan and christian were also vetoed by dh for ds4

but i managed to sneak an equally wonderful name past dh as he missed the birth ds arrived too quickly

i also would have loved dd4 to be agatha but dh used the words over my dead body . he wouldn't even consider cecilia as an alternative to cecily ,he just kept singing the blasted simon and garfunkel song but now he loves and wonders why we didn't use it Angry

schrodinger don't compromise on a name you hate i did this with dd4 as dh vetoed everything i suggested , it caused no end of arguments which festered until after i 'd called her baby for 9 months. i loathed her name that much , dh finally agreed to a compromise and we changed her name . although i now love her name i still feel lingering resentment towards dh for the manner in which he completely ignored my feelings and foisted a name i hated on our dd . choosing a name you hate will only cause heartache for alll concerned .

Maggie. One day ... :)

twentypoundsover · 18/08/2011 19:53

for boys:

Crispin
Hugo
Thurstan
Siegfried
Torquil
Atticus
Horatio

for girls ... I got my way :)

SchrodingersMew · 18/08/2011 19:57

Desserts That's what I'm worried about. :( I don't hate the name, it's Nathan btw. It's just the more I hear it the less I like it.

Then I start getting angry because I keep thinking well this pregnancy has been hellish the least he could do is give me a decent say on the name. MIL agrees!

SchrodingersMew · 18/08/2011 19:58

And I love Cecil and Cecilia. :)

tassisssss · 18/08/2011 19:58

I liked Toby and Angus but ds doesn't

Also liked Freya but it was silly with our surname

Happygomummy · 18/08/2011 20:00

DS could have been Adair.....

SchrodingersMew · 18/08/2011 20:01

I've just shown DP this thread....

He actually said "tell you what, look at him when he's born and see what name comes to you and call him that" I said "and if I still want to call him Caspar?" And he said "then call him that"!!! Shock

MN I love you!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/08/2011 20:04

Loving Atticus and Horatio. :)

MrsRhettButler · 18/08/2011 20:08

Desiree and Simone :(

I'm still grieving Desiree, dd2 due in two weeks and we still can't find a name we agree on!

Huffythetantrumslayer · 18/08/2011 20:17

Dh vetoed every name I came up with. Git. He came up with ONE name! Which I did like and is now ds name. I did sneak one of my names in as a middle name though Grin

Kerb252318 · 18/08/2011 20:25

Martha loved it....DH said over his dead body! Tempting....

fivegomadindorset · 18/08/2011 20:27

Agatha and Arthur

magicmelons · 18/08/2011 20:38

Schro my advice would be don't just look at him after birth and name him, live with it yourself for a t least a day and then see how you feel.

We named DD the way your Dh suggested and I was just so pleased i was no longer in labour that i would have agreed to anything. Ds i said can we wait for a bit then gave it 24 hours and new the name was perfect for him. I shall do the same this time. 5 mins after you have given birth is no time to choose a name although you will feel the pressure from everyone.

Kerb how could anyone hate Martha, it is th eleast offensive name ever.

I got my choices :) I suggested a list of names as my favourites, one was lovely the rest were "too weird" for his liking....he went for the one that was lovely everytime ;)

PrincessScrumpy · 18/08/2011 20:40

Oooh, I loved Blossom (this one would be a middle name as I knew dh wouldn't go for it as a first name - he laughed and said no way).

Martha - dh screwed up his face and said nooooo. I still love it.

Kitty - not Catherine, just Kitty like in the 16th century. Again I went for it as a middle name - dh loves it and wants it as a first name. I was so shocked, but delighted too.

freyamalaya · 18/08/2011 20:45

DP said absolutely no way to my desperation for a Xavier (I sometimes call DS Xavier when no-one looking to see how it sounds on him...) Blush

SchrodingersMew · 18/08/2011 20:56

Magic I will probably give it a few days before I settle. :) Thanks for the advice.

Freya Xavier was one of the ones my DP wanted, and while I like it I just wouldn't be able to stop thinking about Xmen. :o

lwfhinba · 18/08/2011 21:06

DH said no to Ana Clara because he said that Ana won't go with his surname (he may have a point, but I still don't agree with him)

also to Ignacio James. What's not to like about that? Pah.

jenniec79 · 18/08/2011 21:13

DD - Lilian, Frances, Dora

DS - Lewis, Frank, (I love Bertie too, but not too keen on Albert, not sure if I'd get away with a Bertram (ie Wooster) these days and Robert is out as clashes)
