Thoughts on: Athena, Alethea, Artemis and Juno for a girl

So we want to go with an Ancient Greek or Roman (pref Greek) name since DH is 1/2 Greek and his name's Greek and our son has an Ancient Greek name. We've got a boy's name, I think, but am struggling to settle on a girl's name with less than a month to go!

Thoughts? Does Alethea just sound like you have a lisp and are trying to say Alicia? Is Artemis too hippy-dippy (goddess of the hunt/wilderness)? DH thinks Athena is too common.

We've heard of a Thea in a playground but in a posher area than where we currently live (newly built neighbourhood full of expensive houses that I couldn't ever hope to afford Grin) so maybe I'm an aspirational namer?

I don't expect they will be Althea/Alethea though as they are quite niche but it would be nice to buy named tat items for the DDs if the names took off....

Artemis and Athena are the names of the school houses in my friends school.....

I love Juno.

Sorry, got chopped off. 'A' level andgnst . Don't go there.
I like the way that a name calls out classically but not the roundabout fashion of names.
However,no problems with family names (even if they are odd).

harbingerofdoom · 17/08/2011 22:33

Don't worry you'll never find tatt. Sigh

I'm an Althea

Well I've only found one thing with my name on it (a badge in Brighton Museum) so I'm well versed in no named tat. At least now you can get things personalised easily!

I'm a Verity (though I may have mentioned that up thread I get so Confused)

Yes so far we have been sadly joyfully unable to purchase beakers, sports bottles, torches and money boxes all at extortionate reasonable prices. Never mind Wink

When I was younger there was a newsreader called Anthea. You might have noticed her husband. If anybody called me Anthea they got a very evil stare!

However, my hairdresser thinks I'm Alicia and I'm too scared to correct him.(don't go that often).

TruthSweet · 17/08/2011 22:59

I love Cassius, and the others but Cassius just 'speaks' to me.

Callia means beautiful in Greek* and her middle name is Seren - Welsh for star (I'm part Welsh) so she is Beautiful Star. Slightly better than DD1's Night Demon of Fame and War (Lilith Louise).

*Same root as Calista - most beautiful, Calliope - beautiful voice and Calantha - beautiful flower.

Alethea was what DS1 was going to be called but he confused matters by being born a boy!

TruthSweet · 17/08/2011 23:05

How inconvenient of him Wink

cece · 17/08/2011 23:09

Well it was a bit as we hadn't agreed on a boys name!
