DH an I are really struggling to find a name for DS2

I'm due in 5 weeks, but DS1 was 2 weeks early so would like to be prepared a bit earlier, and don't really want to call him 'baby' for too long!

List so far is

Jude
Killian
Raife
Matthew
Ruben
Lewis

Middle name will probably be Gregory

Thanks!

I see why the personal qualities thing is gonna fail, unless you reckon on finding a name that means "moshed" Mind you though Kit suddenly works rather nicely. Grin

KateBC · 10/08/2011 22:45

Saffron that's awesome, totally didn't notice that, DH is a drummer so that should definitely appeal!

Maybe I could convince him that Matthew means anarchy? Or killian derives from the Latin 'killia' meaning 'to wear only black and be mardy'. It could work.

Christopher Gregory/ Kit Gregory's not bad y'know. Cillian meaning Christian is gonna be a hard one to get past him and even if you do there's a risk he will nn the boy Killer, could cause tension maybe? Sadly there's no way I can think of to dress Matthew as dark, tiz a proper good-boy's name.

gallicgirl · 10/08/2011 23:00

I love Gregory.

(Adds it to my list of potential baby names which DP is bound to veto.)

KateBC · 10/08/2011 23:02

Matthew is a very good boy name, didn't realise Cillian was Irish Christian, don't think that will appeal.

Mind you, Toby is hardly a dark name, and that was DHs choice. Will have to do some research into metal and punk bands, and see what names I can find!

So far it could be a lot worse, he's prepared to consider Reuben and Toby, Gregory's alright and he's likely to accept Kit. I do know of brothers called Damon and Jenson... Be glad you didn't marry THAT father. Grin

Bandwithering · 10/08/2011 23:21

does it mean christian? i didn't know that either. i know cill is church though. Might have guessed at a translation of sexton Grin

KateBC · 10/08/2011 23:22

I'm not going to lie, Jensen was mentioned but was answered with my death stare Grin

And he prefers Damien to Damon, just for it's extra demonic qualities

I think a lot if the suggestions are to wind me up though, as that is his favourite sport, which is a lot easier than normal when I'm pregnant!

just got three different meanings for cillian on three different sites. bright headed, war like and a variant of Kelly.

hmmmmmm. i'm curious now. I will look it up in a book. not on an american web site.

SaffronCake · 10/08/2011 23:30

Play him back at his own game then. Any woman that can pull of a death stare has the facial control for deadpan too. Announce that you have simply falled in love with and you can not possibly consider anything else. Keep this up for at least 3 days for full effect.

KateBC · 10/08/2011 23:35

I'll try that one, perhaps it would be more effective during labour? Last time he felt so helpless he'd have let me call DS1 Fifi Trixibelle if he thought it would make me feel better!

OP posts:
KateBC · 10/08/2011 23:37

Bandwithering those meanings sound a little more promising.

Though Ds1 is Toby, which means 'god is good', as DH is atheist I'm not sure how deeply he's looked into any meanings

I suspected I might be mistaken about Cillian, so I cracked out the Mummy of all name books, the Oxford Names Companion. It says (as faithfully as I can)...

"Cillian (m.) Irish: Gaelic name often Anglicised as KILLIAN. It was orginally a byname representing a diminutive form of Gaelic ceallach strife, or possibly derived from Gaelic ceall monastry, church (cf. KELLY), and was borne by various early Irish saints, including the 7th-century author of a life of St Bridget and missionaries to Artois and Franconia.
Variant: Cillin.

Not meaning Christian as such then, but derived from church or monastry and used by a lot of saints. Or, derived from strife. Sorry for the confusion, I mis-remembered.

deste · 10/08/2011 23:39

I also like Matthew, good name

storytopper · 10/08/2011 23:44

If you like Cillian, what at Caelan - it means "slender".

A colleague and his wife recently called their son Caelan.

KateBC · 10/08/2011 23:45

He's never going to check the meaning anyway.

Plus it's not likely that he'd live up to his name, people rarely do

My name means 'pure'... 'nuff said Grin

Jaques

Mika
Michael
Ayrton
Nikki
Nigel
Jim

Eddie

TillyIpswitch · 11/08/2011 02:06

Oh God, DH threw Ayrton into the ring when we were expecting DC2... he got the death stare and then some in return.

KateBC · 11/08/2011 08:16

Ayrton? Never heard of that. Couldn't do Nigel as we used to have a gecko called Nigel.

My mind is so changeable at the moment, i agree on something with DH then o off it half an hour later

I have a Toby and a Matthew. Matthew means "gift of god" I think. And he's far from a good boy!! Grin

KateBC · 11/08/2011 08:47

Ha ha, a 'god is good' and a 'gift from god', that will please DH!
