Dh loves it, and I don't know what I think. Tbh all I can think of is Ronnie Corbett......

Why can't he like any of my lovely names?? I adore Arlo, Dillon and Max. I posted last week about his first suggestion being Rio

We're def having a boy btw. We have to find out as it takes us so long to choose a name!

I am not keen on Ronnie but I Much prefeer it to the names you have suggested (sorry)

Bandwithering · 10/08/2011 19:51

I like Roald and Donald but not Ronald/Ronnie

Chynah · 10/08/2011 21:13

Ronald Mcdonald - don't do it!

SaffronCake · 10/08/2011 22:14

My little girl's name would shorten to Ronnie (although no one ever calls her that) and I think as a nn on a little girl it's very sweet. The actually sound, Ron-Nee is nice. As soon as you apply it to a boy or man though the association to crooks is going to come over fairly often to people in general. Even if you love it, you do have to factor in that people will meet your beloved child and bring to mind Mssr's Biggs, Kray, Wood and McDonald. You need to be pretty committed to go up against that kind of automatic association I think. Maybe if DH likes R names he might consider Reuben or Robert or something a bit less tricky to wear?

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 10/08/2011 22:20

I know a little Ronnie and it works really well on him, it is a nice sounding name if you can get past the associations.
I like Arlo, Max and Dillon a lot more though so I think your DH should compromise (maybe Ronnie could be a middle name?)!

TillyIpswitch · 11/08/2011 02:14

My Grandad, born turn of last century was was a Ronald, known as Ron. It's one of those old-man names which hasn't had its turn back in fashion yet. Get in now before it becomes the next Archie/Alfie. :)

Sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 11/08/2011 02:23

Ron Weasley!

I know a few adult Ron's and nobody calls them Ronnie now they are grown,up.

Do you like Sonny?

MadameCastafiore · 11/08/2011 04:20

I would presume the parents of a Ronnie wear tracksuits and not when they are frequenting the gym!

CheerfulYank · 11/08/2011 04:43

Ron is okay but I don't like Ronnie much.

Max and Dillon better in my opinion.

Good luck!

CheerfulYank · 11/08/2011 04:57

Have never heard of the Two Ronnies before this thread and now am watching on youtube and giggling. :o

lottiejenkins · 11/08/2011 06:15

My first thoughts were Ronnie Mitchell and more scarily Ronnie Kray!!!

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 11/08/2011 06:24

Go for Ronald, call the child Ron, pretend not to hear when your ridiculous partner says Ronnie.

Ronald Arlo is good.

harassedandherbug · 11/08/2011 11:18

Some of the comments have really made me laugh! Thank you!

I particularly like Lynette's advice to ignore the name thing and just announce firmly at birth what I want it to be Grin

Whoever mentioned Ronald McDonald has now put me off Ronald/ Ronnie/ Ron for life tbh!

I may have to murder dh soon...... Wink

Lottie, you're a dub as well aren't you. Do you remember that young skinny men with half a mousstache were called 'ronnies' in the mid/late 80s anyway!

mathanxiety · 11/08/2011 15:33

Best Ronnie ever was .

lottiejenkins · 11/08/2011 22:21

Whats a dub? and No dont remember them..........

Nikki82 · 11/08/2011 23:43

I love it for a boy. Super cute

piprabbit · 11/08/2011 23:46

It would definitely be Ronnie and Reggie - there's still a lot of respect for the Krays around here Hmm.

mathanxiety · 12/08/2011 06:01

A dub would be a native of Dublin.
I think I remember those moustaches from the late 70s and early 80s Bandwithering. They went with the baggy trousers of the day and the hair gel. I have an idea that in Dublinese a ronnie is also a faint moustache on a girl.

Still really like Ronnie as a name...

lottiejenkins · 12/08/2011 06:31

Im certainly not a Dub then. Im East Anglian born and bred me!! Wink

harassedandherbug · 12/08/2011 09:17

Pip I come from SE London and they're still kind of hero worshipped around there.....

I'm completely off it now tbh, although may relent as a middle name if he comes up with a decent first name! For now he's Bug or Cyril Grin.

yeah that's it mathanxiety! dark facial hair on upper lip. that's a ronnie for me. remember them on henry street and mary street when i used to work in easons!

Lottie, I was mistaking you for another poster with lottie in her name. Smile

buttonmoon1985 · 12/08/2011 19:13

i like it i prefer ronnie to arlo and dillon, although my 2 have names everyone hates lol so maybe i should hide back in my corner

exoticfruits · 12/08/2011 19:16

Horrible.

Avinalarf · 13/08/2011 13:10

I quite like it. It is better than a lot of other old man names in vogue at the moment (Stanley, Harry, Alfie etc).

Rio is vile, though.

But your choices are bland (Come on, the world does NOT need another Max!).
