What do you think of Damson as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

That doesn't make it right though does it?
Truly awful name IMO.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 07/08/2011 15:02

No, I dont like it at all. The poor dc would get nicknamed Damn.

LetThereBeRock · 07/08/2011 15:04

It's a dreadful name.

Greythorne · 07/08/2011 15:05

Hilarious.

midnightexpress · 07/08/2011 15:06

Awful. Sounds damp and plummy.

reelingintheyears · 07/08/2011 15:07

Sorry,don't like it either.

It reads to me as Dam(n) son.

But then i don't like any fruit type names.

Apple/Peaches etc.

InstantAtom · 07/08/2011 15:13

No worse than Plum I suppose... mind you I don't like that either.

Jbck · 07/08/2011 15:19

Sounds like a made up boys name to me.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/08/2011 15:22

Lovely jam

PorkChopSter · 07/08/2011 15:23

Hum makes lovely Jam. Erm, you know anyone can add any name to that name finder? At least you used to be able to Blush

deliakate · 07/08/2011 15:27

yes, I added it, then you can automatically generate the "its listed" etc message

Er Blush I think it's sweet... pardon the pun.

But your poor baby would undeniably suffer miserably for it so don't do it. I can think of a good dozen unpleasant things to call a Damson immediately with no effort. Thier future classmates would make me look amature.

SecretNutellaFix · 07/08/2011 16:44

You do realise that the baby name finder does sometimes get treated as a pisstake?

As for your question- fruit is not an acceptable medium from which to choose a child's name, in my book anyhow. You wouldn't use "lamb chop" as a given name, would you?

Casmama · 07/08/2011 16:47

Why not go for Tamsin instead - sounds similar but doesn't look odd.

EdithWeston · 07/08/2011 16:52

It would probably be difficult to live with, as it starts "damn"

Might the more traditional combo of Victoria nn Plum be a possibility instead?

good for gin, good for jam, bad for a baby.

lollystix · 07/08/2011 22:20

Saw your title and thought 'what - jam?'. Sorry

LemonDifficult · 07/08/2011 22:25

Last week DH recommended a friend call their new pupy Damson. Their other dog is called Mulberry.

It would work for cat, rabbit or horse also.

lollystix · 07/08/2011 22:29

Sorry Pmsl now thinking about mulberry and damson out on walkies. Would you not feel a total fanny shouting that down the street? Are they springer spaniels by any chance?

LemonDifficult · 07/08/2011 22:30

One is Lab/Spring other Springer/Cocker - top marks!

KangarooCaught · 07/08/2011 22:32

Nothing sweet about damsons, not at least on my tree, sour little buggers.

Think I prefer Plum as a name, rather than Damson.

lollystix · 07/08/2011 22:32

Brown ones?

helendigestives · 08/08/2011 10:03

I think it's really lovely. :)

sunshinenanny · 18/08/2011 21:10

Hmm It's a very tasty sort of plumGrin
