......because of the story that's just been in the news of the Gracie born to a 14yr old who has the youngest (29yr old) grandparents in the UK??

I am about 5wks off giving birth and the name I have liked consistently through this pregnancy has been Grace/Gracie but that story has really made me think again. Think it is partly me just being a bit of a middle class snob and wondering if Gracie is actually quite a chavvy name or will possibly become one.

What does anyone think??

Lara is gorgeous.
Would you consider Rosemary (with the possibility of Romy as a nn -- Romy is a German/Austrian nn for Rosemarie)? It's a sort of old ladyish name...

I think Esme is beautiful, and I am not usually a fan of old lady/old man names.

You cannot move for Maisies and Lilys around here. Know a Martha who is a delight - her sister is Florence and the names work really well.

Grace is lovely, but it's a risk in case your child turns out to be a fat clumsy lump. Grin

I really like Grace. I'm not so keen on Gracie other than as a nickname. Congratulations :)

I wouldn't be put off a name just because one person you don't like/approve of used it, that would be silly. I agree with others that Grace with Gracie as the nn would be better.

Lara is really lovely though, personally I like that much better. Although they do go nicely together, Lara Grace sounds good. I like Martha too, though I do imagine a Martha being very 'sensible' somehow!

my dd is Grace - we use Gracie as a nn.

We are certainly not 'chavs'

I don't think a name dictates how a person is perceived, it is how that person conducts themselves.

Graciescotland · 21/08/2011 10:25

Ahem am biased but it's a very nice name.

smilingcl · 21/08/2011 10:36

I love the name Grace, nn Gracie. I wouldn't echo what Velvet says - the individual defines the name, I wouldn't worry about other people being called it.

My friends have called their daughter Agnes which I think is really cute.

I like the suggestion Greta too.

smilingcl · 21/08/2011 10:48

That was meant to say I WOULD echo.. doh.
