Me and DH already have a Joseph. We love names which everyone knows how to pronounce and spell (boring some might say!!) but not loving anything too modern or unusual.

We both like Ryan but not sure if it seems quite dated now. What do u think when you hear it?

BlobTheGreat · 02/08/2011 12:45

Ohhhhn no hadn't even thought about him! We are a non football loving family! Eeeek not good connotations surroundng him lately.....

It's a perfectly good name although it does remind me of RyanAir.

BlobTheGreat · 02/08/2011 12:57

Crikey, RyanAir or Ryan giggs! All these things I had never thought about! Nothing too bad as yet though... I like the sound of it and it seems to be something that everyone will know how to spell etc.

I like it. It's a solid, strong name.

InstantAtom · 02/08/2011 13:02

Don't worry about the associations :) Like you say they are not too bad. Most names have some kind of connection somewhere!

BlobTheGreat · 02/08/2011 20:46

Thank you everyone. We love it. Just need to think of a middle name now!

Sorry, but I hate it. My feelings are probably amplified as dh is making me use it as a second mn if next dc is a ds, as it is a family name for him. I am gutted it has to be in the name!
Not helpful to you, I know.
I agree Joseph should have a brother with a more classic name.

Sophiesmummie · 02/08/2011 21:38

I too find Ryan less classic/elegant than Joseph. I know a few Americans named Ryan, maybe it is more popular over there.

Bandwithering · 02/08/2011 23:25

awful. just not a favourite of mine. i just think it's like bryan without the B. and i hate bryan as well.

TillyIpswitch · 03/08/2011 02:44

I know a lovely adult Ryan so it doesn't have bad connotations for me, but... I do tend to agree with everlong about it fitting in better with perhaps less classic names.

I have taught a few Ryans. They've all been really naughty!

pointydog · 03/08/2011 09:28

It's ok

BerryLellow · 03/08/2011 09:31

It means 'Little King' Hmm :o

I don't mind it actually, although it's an ex boyfriend's name.

chickensaregreen · 03/08/2011 09:44

I really like it. It's a gentle name.

rachel234 · 03/08/2011 10:01

I really dislike Ryan, I'm afraid.

grubbalo · 03/08/2011 12:43

Elle, I was just going to type that my husband is a teacher and says Ryan is a "naughty boy" name (although he teaches secondary, and says that most of those Ryan's have passed through now).

MatLeaveForever · 04/08/2011 07:25

I like it, and Joey and Ryan do go well together (assuming he's called Joey sometimes). Although it doesn't really matter what anyone thinks on here, it's what you love as it's your child!
