Hi All,

I was just wondering...since the 2010 stats have been released would you now go with a different name, If the name you liked was in the top 10 or even 50???

Say if you wanted to call future DD, Jessica would you know change it to something else or would you just say..' oh blow it, I don't care about stats'

Just interested being a nosy cow really Grin Blush Grin

shoobidoo My children are not that popular according to the stats (one at 120, one in the two hundreds, one in the four hundreds and one in the eight hundreds) , but it has been said on MN before that they will date horribly, which is a shame as I chose them because I thought they were classics! My theory is that if you know somebody in all age groups with the name then it is classic, and my dc fit that bill!
I don't think names like William, Benjamin and James will date though, despite their popularity, but names like Olivia and Oliver will.

The rankings are not really an accurate guide though. I have an unusual name that was not very common in the 80's and would no doubt have appearared very low down the list. But I did a Saturday morning drama group and there were 4 of us

BUt Sophie's mummy - if you really have a Sophie hasn't it been in the top 5 the last few years ;) (I love the name btw)

Sophiesmummie · 02/08/2011 21:33

emsies, my dd has Sophie as a middle name. Her first name is just outside the top 100 but has been creeping up the charts recently Smile.

Wouldn't life be more interesting and wouldn't it be easier to remember people if we all chose different names? Why are so many of choosing names that are already used by thousands of others.... given that there are indeed lots of names outside of the top 100 or so.

So to answer the OP, yes it would put me off Smile.

Because sometimes they are lovely classic, traditional names that people tend to like rather than weird strange names that noone has heard of ;)

Underused does not have to mean "weird" or "strange" Smile.
