Which do you prefer? Frida or Flora?

I have a Carmen Lois (dead easy to name as named after Spanish grandmother and my mother)

This one is heep um hard and I fixate on one, only to wobble soon after.

Husband really likes Frida (and so do I, love the artist) whereas I think Flora offers nickname potential -- although looking at Carmen that doesn't either and no probs there.

Flora is beginning to sound a little frilly and Sloaney to me now. Not that I really think it is, though. Argghhhhhhh

Like I said, I've been through Nancy/Camille (too similar) and a host of rather weird ones (I have a thing for Old Hollywood) and I've lost my compass completely!

We both have Spanish grandparents (my side has unusable names though) and Scottish/Welsh heritage. Surname sounds like Evans but has a lovely meaning. Certain names won't work and others I like I can't use as friends have.

Elizabeth would be a family middle name.

Thanks all. Have actually considered Audrey and Frances but husband has dismissed them as too dour.

I also like Rita (it's a family name) but it has 'baggage' in this country. Baggage I'm not sure is unsurpassable.

Some names are marmite names. There are many popular names I just dislike (though not strangely when attached to the actual living child) but I don't see much point in coming on a thread to say I hate them.

Frida is used in Spain, and I always think of the artist (it's a contraction of Frederica) but it is most common as a Scandinavian name. I would never associate it with Winifred or Muriel.

I'm a Dolly, so am aware of the issues in saddling a child with a silly name!

Regarding Carmen and nicknames, I am nickname crazy (I have about 20 various names for our cats) but don't nickname her, or else I call her Carmelita, Carmencita etc as a playful diminutive amongst ourselves. Or call her Lolo (after Lois) But I suppose it will be more of an issue when she (she's just under three) grows up and develops her own nickname.

I considered lots of Spanish names but their either seemed too frilly for me, too hard to say, didn't go with our surname, or just seemed Spanish for the sake of it and we are British and live in London.

Don't like either, but think Frederica is gorgeous and would sound great with Carmen.

Frederica - too many syllables for me. Don't dislike it though
