Anglo-French girl's name

We're really struggling to decide on a name for our DD2 due in October. My DH is French so we need to choose a name that works well in both languages - with the spelling and pronunciation the same. Our DD1 is called Sylvie.

Our short list is Alice, Elodie, Fleur, Florence (Flo for short), Olive.

I think we're going to go for Alice or Fleur. I didn't originally want to go for Fleur but it's growing on me and it's the only name where the pronunciation is exactly the same.

Quenelle Scylla and Charybdis were the two sea monsters that guarded the straits of Messina in Greek mythology.

Pretentious people (like me) say "between Scylla and Charybdis", where the less affected might say "between a rock and a hard place."

I love Elodie from your list. Friends whose dad is French are called Manon and Fleur.

We went with Lily because we needed a name that worked well in French, English and Greek!

Please not Scyla! Scyla along with Charibdys are monsters from Greek mythology (the story is about having two chose between two evils, so as malinois says the expresion is still used in modern Greek to mean caught between two evil choices and can be used in English as well). In modern Greek Skyla also means bitch, as in female dog, so again not very appealing!

Alexis is a boy's name in French.

Interesting. I know two French Alexis-es and both are girls.

I've just checked back on this thread - got my c-sec booked in for next Weds and still undecided! Lol Scylla! Certainly won't be going for that one!

All great names. I have French/English friends called Celine and Joelle. I think these names work well too.
