Cuthbert?

Too pretentious?

nn Bertie

I'm assuming the Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb thing is far too old to be remembered by next generation.

It was OH's grandfathers name so its not just random, but I am unconvinced at present, any thoughts?

birdofthenorth, that was their surname though - the lovely old gent was called Matthew.

Use it as a middle name, OP.

HoneyDuke · 24/07/2011 00:02

Really awful.

Cherrypi · 24/07/2011 10:20

Is he still in the beano? I think Albert is better.

PaperBank · 24/07/2011 11:16

But at least it is obscure and different. Often names are chosen for that reason but everyone else has exactly the same idea, hence we get name fads.

"i think i'd think you'd picked it to be obscure and different"

Selks · 24/07/2011 11:30

Yes...and it's obscure and different for a reason.

pilates · 24/07/2011 18:13

Def not first name but ok (if you must) for a middle name

emmanumber3 · 24/07/2011 18:19

Oh dear me, no. Not a Cuthbert please Hmm.

Kallista · 24/07/2011 23:46

When thinking of a man's name (babies grow up...) think of their future. In the boardroom - 'what ideas have you come up with, Cuthbert?', or on the building site, 'oi, Cuthbert, get back to work & stop eyeing up that bird...'

sparkle12mar08 · 25/07/2011 12:28

There's someone on the site here with a ds called Cuthbert and they got the same opinions when they asked. Cully is thre only nice nickname I could come up with. Use it if you love it.

Macaroona · 25/07/2011 12:30

Please don't, it's awful, literally the most ugly boys' name I can imagine Sad

narmada · 26/07/2011 14:42

Absolutely bloody awful. Please don't do it to your beautiful boy!

Merle · 26/07/2011 14:56

We considered it for one if our lads. We liked the Celtic/Northumbrian connection. The problem is that it is too lispy - I struggle to pronounce it, let alone a child. Think of another.

SkiBumMum · 26/07/2011 16:06

Loving the Anne of Green Gables references! Have suggested Marilla or Small Anne Cordelia to DH but not being a Kindred Spirit, he is less than convinced Smile

redheadbedhead · 26/07/2011 16:09

No no no no, no no no-no. No? No.

what was that you said? No?

No.

doesntfitin · 26/07/2011 16:09

bloody awful

oiwheresthecoffee · 26/07/2011 16:26

Cuthbert the magic dragon anyone ?

InstantAtom · 26/07/2011 17:14

I've heard of Puff the Magic Dragon, not Cuthbert though

nellyjelly · 17/07/2012 20:50

Cuthbert is a good old Northumbrian name. St Cuthbert was from there. I like it.

PaddingtonBare · 17/07/2012 20:53

I like it - but I wouldn't use it myself as I'm a bit too "safe"

nellyjelly · 17/07/2012 20:56

Sorry I seem to have reserrected a threadnfrom 2011! Please ignore!

perplexedpirate · 17/07/2012 20:57

workshy · 17/07/2012 20:58
