Caspar?

Or should it be Casper? Hubby has thrown this in at the last minute and I think I like it - would be Cass for most of the time I think. Is it masculine? Is it cool? Does it suit a grown man? Is it nicer than Nathaniel (currently agreed upon name)?

NB - Cassius is not an option. I can't get my head around the meaning. Plus my older son is called Jude and Jo Wiley has sons called Jude and Cassius - she is not someone I want people to think I am trying to emulate!

It's a really flipping lovely name and I love Cas (NOT Cass which is short for Cassie in my head) as a nickname.

Caspar is the friendly ghost and the character will endure as sooner or later there'll be another cartoon about it

A person becomes more than just a single association though.

Raphael is a turtle
Matilda a child prodigy
Betty a female superhero
Lola an annoying precocious oik or showgirl
Harry a boy wizard

But they're perfectly acceptable names and I'd happily use them.

And my first association with Caspar is the wise man. But all children transcend the associations with their names anyway. Caspar is a blooming brilliant name.

Maybe not Adolf though. It's been ruined by a dog I once knew.

Not sure how pc it was for me to laugh at that, but I did - quite spectacularly given I had a mouthful of tea at the time!

I love this name, I used to talk to a guy a few years ago who was called Caspar. He loved his name and he was 18.

I mentioned it to DP the other week and got a no. :( We're going with Nathan although I would have loved to have used this!

Our dog is Casper, he is a white standard poodle.

Caspar: One of the three wise men
Casper: The friendly ghost

Nightstar, I agree that Cas/Cass is quite soft and feminine sounding but I think that's a good thing. I love slightly androgynous names for boys.

Love Caspar. This is actually the name of our alpaca - the others are called Oscar and Cassius, and I would happily use these names if we had sons.

Caspar is a truly fab name, but then I'm biased! . Works well for a cute little boy and a respectable man, too.

But preferably spelled the traditional way, not Casper as in ghost. Having said that, as far as I'm concerned, there's no reason why a not-even-especially-current cartoon character should have some kind of exclusivity on the name forever.
