Here's the baby name I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

Girls
Araminta

Too "try hard" IMO.

EvieMama · 19/07/2011 20:45

We're expecting a girl and Araminta is our favourite name, our other dc is called Evie.

I love it. DD2 has a friend who is Araminta. She is known as "Mince". Grin

I know twins called Araminta (Minty) and Mungo. They are very sweet children but it always sounds like there should be a series of children's books called Minty & Mungo (a la Topsy & Tim)

Its a bit posh for me but if you're posh, then go for it Smile

It's quite 80s sloane... but then there's an 80s revival at the moment!

manicinsomniac · 19/07/2011 23:06

I was obsessed with this name as a child. I think at least three of my dolls were Aramintas!

I think Minty is so cute.

LemonDifficult · 19/07/2011 23:09

I do know someone called Araminta - but she has a family member with a terwible lisp.

Ahwaminta. Just doesn't seem fair.

Beamur · 19/07/2011 23:14

I think its rather lovely.

birdofthenorth · 20/07/2011 00:51

Comedically posh IMHO. I'm sorry. Minty not much better as an nn. Sorry Blush

AlpinePony · 20/07/2011 07:32

I love it, but am nowhere near posh enough to use it.

In fact, I doubt the type of person who could get away with it would be asking internet harpies.

Chandon · 20/07/2011 07:37

O.k. if you uou live in Stately Home that has been in your family for centuries, you have horses and staff.

If not, it's very very wannabe somehow Grin

EvieMama · 20/07/2011 10:41

Oh no is it a comedically posh name still? I thought with Evie it would tone it down a bit.

We don't have stately home or staff Blush It was all going so well until the last few posts too.

AKMD · 20/07/2011 11:17

It is, sorry.

philippajane · 20/07/2011 12:44

I like it with Evie.

Pootles2010 · 20/07/2011 12:46

It goes well with Evie but your children will not always be introduced together! Agree with others, it might be perceived as too try-hard.

pilates · 20/07/2011 12:47

Dislike Araminta, but love Minty, sounds good with Evie too.

LoveInAColdChamberOfSecrets · 20/07/2011 12:49

I like it very much although I was at school/university with rather a lot of Aramintas so I wonder if it is a bit too popular - although I haven't heard of any babies with that name so perhaps it was very popular amongst eighties babies and is due for a revival? It's on my list as well, though, so I am biased.

PipFEH · 20/07/2011 18:36

I love Minty and suggested 'Araminta to be known as Minty' to hubby who just laughed at me. We are not very posh, but he does know loads of very posh people through work and liked the names Rupert and Hugo for this baby so obviously isn't too put off by poshness.......to me that suggests it is slightly comedy posh - sorry. Although I do still really love Minty (and think Evie and Minty sound lovely together).

Shinyshoes1 · 20/07/2011 18:39

I don't like it,

Shinyshoes1 · 20/07/2011 18:39

its a bit like arrowmint

Colliewollydoodle · 20/07/2011 18:42

Probably get shortened to ARRY! Grin

Chipotle · 20/07/2011 18:51

All these people who know lots of Aramintas? I've never met an Araminta in my life, maybe we move in different circles?
I'm a bit ffnnaaahh about it, it's neither beautiful nor hideous.
