Spanish name (but easy in English) for a girl

About to pop, have had real wobbles picking a name, it was so easy for my first. We call her Carmen (after her great-grandmother) Lois (after my mother). No spelling, no pronunciation issues and a strong name.

We're both grandchildren of Spaniards and would like another Spanish name, but one that isn't too dour (Dolores, Soledad are out), isn't wildly frilly (I used to have a thing about names ending in 'a' but I've come round now), and isn't too ostentatiously Spanish.

Have/am considering Lela (but worry about the spelling issue and how people would pronounce it), Frida, and Catalina (shortened to Cat, Cati or Kitty) - but would that be weird with Carmen as a sibling's name?

I do like Ines but husband thinks too modish and it also has pronunciation issues.

Asún!

(Asunción) Although I knew a nunsi (bit like nancy really) short for Asunción and it suited her.

or maybe Inma (Inmaculada).

Those names have to be coming back soon.

Claudia?

SnuvsandtheirGloves · 15/07/2011 16:45

Beatriz? Really pretty, goes with Carmen, doesn't end in an A, everyone will be able to pronouce it and Bea is a cute NN.

Bandwithering · 15/07/2011 16:55

Yes Beatriz is lovely

Marisol is a beautiful name with a lovely secular meaning.

I have a similar background - DD has Violet as a MN - abuelita was Violetta.

sfxmum · 17/07/2011 11:53

Carmen
Ines
Beatriz
Isabel
but I love Pilar

BubaMarra · 19/07/2011 10:47

I love Ines. It's one of our options for DD2 (pregnant now). Not sure how it can be shortened, tho

TruthSweet · 19/07/2011 11:54

A friend of mine is Spanish and she has two little girls Amaya and Carla.

Carmen and Amaya go well together (Carmen & Carla are a bit 'matchy matchy' IMHO)

I do like Beatriz and Pilar!

A friend of a friend is Triana, named after the flamenco district in Sevilla. I think it's lovely and romantic.

MooseCakey · 19/07/2011 18:25

I like Ines and Sofia from what has been suggested here. Mercedes is nice but personally I'd worry about the car connection

woowa · 19/07/2011 21:38

Also
