Our baby is due on Xmas eve and I thought that if it did come on the day a Christmassy name might be nice.

Apart from the obvious joke names (Yes, I count Jesus and Santa amoungst those) anyone got any good suggestions for boys?

We have come up with:
Gabriel
Christopher
Caspar (one of the three wise men)
George (From It's a Wonderful Life)

Nathan or Nathaniel
I know not strictly Christmas names, but they do sound a bit like Nativity Confused

Evan

Natalie - it has various meanings but they all kind of centre around 'child of christmas', 'birth of jesus' etc, im guessing thats where the word 'natal' comes from or vice versa.

Nice name, not obviously christmassy.

Wenceslas?

Bethlehem?

Frankincense (Frank for short!)

I would consider Christopher, Noel, Joseph (my DS's middle name after his GF) and possibly Nicholas.
People wouldn't immediately associate Christopher or Nicholas with Christmas so I don't think he would get any grief from others!

Dominic. It means (Day Of The) Lord. But most people won't know this, so not too obviously Christmas-Day-y!
My mother picked this name for my brother, due in the January, he arrived early (Christmas Day) and it was only later that she found out the meaning.

Thanks peeps, especially for those who wrote scrooge or similar! Most helpful. Just kidding, and I agree that something too christmassy would be a bit mean.

Also, we're only looking for a boys name and I wouldnt call a boy Holly or Ivy!

I love the Marley suggestion, as a writer myself having the baby named after a character from a book definitely appeals to me.

Please keep making suggestions, I'm keeping a list to show my husband, thanks x

What about Roman, based on this (nabbed from Wiki):

The date of Christmas may have initially been chosen to correspond with ... the day exactly nine months after Christians believe Jesus to have been conceived, the date of the Roman winter solstice

or Bay, based on this (also nabbed from Wiki):

In the 15th century, it was recorded that in London it was the custom at Christmas for every house and all the parish churches to be "decked with holm, ivy, bays, and whatsoever the season of the year afforded to be green"

Sorry, not much help really!

According to my Collins dictionary of first names Christmas has been used as a boys and girls name since 13th century. Apparently the most famous holder the name was Mr Christmas Humphreys president of the London Buddhist society.

Luke wrote about Jesus' birth too, in the Bible, not just Matthew.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem, or David's town, so David is quite christmassy in that way. Jesus was probably actually called Joshua (or Jeshua or Yeshua) (Jesus is the anglicised version), so could be Joshua.

When he wasn't very old Jesus was spoken about by the prophet Simeon in the temple in Jerusalem, that he would be a light for the Gentiles. So Simeon could work.

He had brothers called Jude and James.
