I heard this name mentioned in a shop yesterday, and really like it. I'm just not sure if it's a proper name or not?
Also is it popular? I've never known anyone called this, but it could be popular elsewhere.

It's my husbands grannys name from Sarah, we used it as a middle name for dd2, I really liked it but it is a bit grannyish here, mind you so is Ruby! We are in NI.

I know two Sadies - one Jewish, one not. I never knew it as a nn, but I do think Sarah is a really lovely name for the bc.

I know the name but I don't actually know who Sadie Frost is Blush

evamummy it's not pronounced sad, it's Say-dee

wigglesrock · 07/07/2011 18:09

GwendolineMaryLacey bit of an actress, ex wife of Jude Law, makes fancy dan knickers now!!

I've only met one Sadie. It's nicknamey but "established" enough to be a name in its own right. I prefer Sarah though, as it is less hard-sounding.

I like it. I think of it as being a bit American (Sadie Frost aside), as Enid Blyton called the glamourous American in one of the St Clare's books Sadie. Grin

Just As much as Sally is a proper name (another nn for Sarah, originally, I believe).

WaitingForBabyD · 08/07/2011 12:25

I love the name Sadie, and have known a Sadie since I was early teens. Definitely a real name IMO. Check out the Beatles Song Sexy Sadie. She seems like a pretty interesting Sadie!

SenoritaViva · 08/07/2011 12:30

I also couldn't believe no one mentioned Sadie Frost...

Some friends of mine have a Sadie who is 7. I think it is rather nice and I know some people have said sounds a bit like a nickname but I think it passes my mums 'serious name' test. (Her test is to imagine working in a serious office job etc. and use the name) and I think Sadie would work more than some of the more popular names used now (Daisy, Poppy etc. both of which I like but I'm not sure always the best name for an adult).

SenoritaViva · 08/07/2011 12:31

PS the Sadie who is 7 is Sadie not Sarah or any other name.

superjobeespecs · 08/07/2011 12:34

DS in my tum would have been sadie if he was a DD lovely name :) old fashioned and uncommon but a real name compared to some of the names you see nowadays Grin

Bandwithering · 08/07/2011 15:49

yes, and it's lovely. I really like it.

Whyriskit · 08/07/2011 20:16

I really like it. DS1 has a friend called Sadie, don't think it's short for Sarah in her case. She's 3. My old boss was also called Sadie, she was in her 60's.

muminthemiddle · 08/07/2011 23:18

i think it is a real name. I don't know any young Sadies.

hester · 08/07/2011 23:22

It's a lovely old Jewish name, short for Sarah. Really pretty, I think.

Kneedeepinshittynappies · 14/07/2012 15:44

My 4 mo dd is sadie. Always loved it and although I played with others was going to be sadie from the very start. Glad most people seem to like it!

bobbledunk · 15/07/2012 17:39

I think it's very pretty.

ilovesprouts · 15/07/2012 18:30
