We're not Scottish, could we use Hamish?

following on from a recent discussion about the name Hamish, I was just wondering if an English/welsh couple in the east midlands could use it or is that just a bonkers idea?!

It's a great name but be prepared to meet EVERY SINGLE westie in Scotland called Hamish

I liked it (and I'm Scottish) but since I'm also in the East Midlands and not in Scotland or London, the general consensus was that it was a wee bit too twee Scottish.

I say sod everyone else though and go with what you like.

My non Scottish friend has a Hamish, I like it.

We are an English/welsh couple in the West Midlands and have a Fergus if that helps ?

No one bats an eyelid if Aimee and Amelie don't have French parents. And, incidently, Rhys, Carys and other well known Welsh names rank in the top 100 in Scotland, so why should a Scottish name in England be so outlandish?

Hamish actually ranked #399 in England and Wales so, though not vastly popular, it is being used. I say, go for it! :)

I know a Hamish, he is is known as Mitch. He's a big harry tattoed biker but a lovely bloke.
