Elsa - a reasonable name?!

My DH and I both love the name Elsa if our first DC (due November) is a girl. I'm 30, DH is 28. My parents both think 'everyone' will immediately think of the lion cub from Born Free when they hear the name Elsa. Neither my DH or I, or any of our friends, make that link as most of us have never seen Born Free!!! For my mum, the mental link to the film is so strong she thinks the name is unusable, but I love love love the name, it's the first one that just felt 'right' when my DH and I discussed it. What does everyone think?

Ha ha, called my dd Elsa, born Dec 2011. Bet no one thinks of that lion now lol!! Trust Disney.....

thewebbleyjess · 01/09/2014 19:50

Actually my first thought is Elsie, as mentioned in the song Cabaret. Which is a great reason to use it Wink

Ludways · 01/09/2014 19:54

Letitgo... Ha ha!

Actually I don't think of frozen first, my dog was called Elsa, I think of her first!

If it's any consolation, is have used the name if I hadn't already used it for the dog, beautiful name.

Fcukfifa · 01/09/2014 19:56

My only thought was of frozen, but I do now have 'born free' playing round in my head!

perfectview · 01/09/2014 19:57

I thought would be all about Frozen as well, but still a lovely name.

RancidOldHag · 01/09/2014 19:58

L'd think it weirder on a dog than a human. Because it really is a leoline name, not a canine one.

Not that that would put me off. No worse than the smaller cats Kitty or Tabitha

Ludways · 02/09/2014 08:04

It's only a leonine name if you associate it with a lion, I don't, lol

Ludways · 02/09/2014 08:08

Tbf, it wasn't me that named her, that was my knob of an ex, he refused my chosen name which was a lot more in tune with her breed. No other reason than he was an awkward twat.

Still love the name.

LittleBearPad · 02/09/2014 08:10

Definitely frozen not born free.

LittleBearPad · 02/09/2014 08:10

But it is lovely name

Fragglewump · 02/09/2014 08:10

I think with the huge popularity of Disneys frozen they will probably be loads of elsa's in your dcs class at school. Lovely name though.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/09/2014 08:18

Well I'm guessing little Elsa is about 3yo now.

Choccyhobnob · 02/09/2014 11:22

Do you think it is a no no to use Elsa now because of Frozen? I've always loved the name.

Ludways · 02/09/2014 22:48

I don't think it's a no no, people will forget the link before they get to school. I have friend who named her ds Milo, nearly everyone commented about The Tweenies, he's 7 now and very few people remember.

Letitgoletitgo · 03/09/2014 06:37

Yep my Elsa is nearly 3 so don't think there will be lots of Elsa's in her class in future, I don't know any her age, but I suspect lots are being born this year. :0)

minniemaus · 03/09/2014 08:45

Nice name but becoming very fashionable, not only due to Frozen but also old granny retro chic.

I wouldn't be surprised if it moves up to the top 10 or 20 soon!

So if that might bother you, perhaps reconsider.

alemci · 03/09/2014 08:50

yes it is , lovely, I do think of the lion cub in born free though (showing my age)

stinkingbishop · 03/09/2014 08:52

I think it's lovely. It was on our list. And I think the lion connection is a nice one anyway. Just think how excited she'll be to see the film when she's bigger! We actually visited the Adamsons' old farm where they looked after Elsa. They were amazing people and Elsa was an extraordinary lion Smile.

soundsystem · 03/09/2014 12:36

Have never heard of the lion (I'm 30). Lovely name :)

curiousgeorgie · 03/09/2014 12:37

This thread is from 2011... I'm pretty sure this Elsa is about 3 now Wink
