DH said he really liked this name the other day whilst watching the tennis (Jo-Wilfred Tsonga).
What does everybody think.

I like it esp shortened to Wilf

bagelmonkey · 02/07/2011 13:12

I love it!
Wilfred, Wilf, Fred, Freddie.
Very versatile.

Greenwing · 02/07/2011 14:27

Deserves a come-back for the sake of Wilfred Owen alone.
Like it! It may be great-grandfather-ish now, but it could be part of the next wave to come back into fashion.
I like the way you can use both Wilf and Fred as possible nns.

Bramble

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 02/07/2011 14:31

I like it - but don't like Wilf or Freddie, so would go for Will or Fred as nn.

mopsyflopsy · 02/07/2011 14:41

Really dislike it, I'm afraid. I dislike both the Wil (Willy) and Fred bit.

NotJustKangaskhan · 04/07/2011 11:00

I love it, would use in a heartbeat but I already have an Owen (My husband thinks it would announce our literary geekiness too loudly Grin).

lottiejenkins · 04/07/2011 11:07

My lovely ds is a Wilfred......(pics on profile) He was named after Wilfred Owen. He gets called Wilf and Wilfred (and other names which i wont repeat on here!!) Grin I think it is becoming more popular now than when i had Wilf (hes fifteen this week) Having said that its not as popular as Alfie!!

flopsy1974 · 04/07/2011 14:34

Thanks for the positive response. I thought it would get slated on here. I like it, but then again I like most old man names Smile

I love it too! We seriously considered it for my eldest, but it is my hubby's grandfather's name and we needed to avoid family names really as there is a naming tradition on both sides, neither of which we had any intention of continuing........Otherwise it was a very serious contender! We would have shortened it to Wilf for everyday.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 04/07/2011 19:05

Love the gargoyle pic, Lottie.

Wilfred is a far, far superior name to Alfie imho. :)

spout · 04/07/2011 19:06

getting quite popular round my way - two in my local playgroup. Lovely, though.

SloganLogan · 04/07/2011 20:25

I don't like it, sorry.

PurpleStrawberry · 05/07/2011 10:56

A great name, far better then some of the popular boy names!

chandellina · 05/07/2011 11:03

love it, and also love Wilf and Freddie. Might need to put it on my list though seem to recall it didn't make the cut with DH last time.

JanMorrow · 05/07/2011 11:13

I LOVE Wilfred. Wilf sounds ridiculous with our surname though so we had to discount it.. sigh.

I also love Wulfric but that's a bit Saxon for modern day tastes I think..

birdofthenorth · 05/07/2011 13:50

Brilliant! If my best friend hadn't bagsied Freddie I reckon Wilfred might be high on my list!
