New shortlist!

To go with big brothers Oliver and Edward (Teddy)

Josephine (top runner, I like Josie for nn and love POsy as nn, DH also likes this name a lot)

Alice (DH's absolute favourite, I like it but find it a little bit plain)

Philippa (Pippa as nn, I love this, its my favourite, but DH has been put off big time by Pippa Middleton)

Elsa/Elsie (Does Elsa sound too much like Ailsa? which I dnt like!)

Alexa (Lexie as nn)

Florence (too copycat after DC named his baby this?)

Nina

Mae/May (not sure whic spelling I prefer and is it a bit short for a first name? makes me think more of a middle name somehow)

What do you think???

I love Josephine too, and would put that at the top of my list: it's strong, elegant and classy. May is also a fab first name and goes well with your boys, although I would stick with the -y spelling.

Alice and Nina are nice but a bit too plain against your boys' names imo. Love Elsa (DH vetoed Angry) but not Elsie - I suppose whether or not it sounds like Ailsa might depend on your accent Grin Also, not sure it works with Edward.

Don't like Florence or Philippa, not fussed about Alexa.

Josephine - gorgeous, lovely name :)

Alice - agree with you, a little dull

Philippa/Pippa - lovely

Elsa/Elsie - Elsie is nice but yes, Elsa sounds similar to Ailsa

Alexa (Lexie as nn) - not keen, Alexander much nicer

Florence - lovely, not to worry about "copycat" (you've picked it for your shortlist independently, not because of Camerons!)

Nina - very pretty, a bit "different" but not way out

Mae/May - May lovely and unusual as first name

SloganLogan · 01/07/2011 14:49

Sorry, I meant Alexandra, obviously!

birdofthenorth · 01/07/2011 16:57

LOVE Mae! Gorgeous, classy, under-used as a first name

Like all your list actually, bit Middleton & Cameron do spoil Pippa & Florence a bit (I just imagine people saying "oh as in..." too much)

razzlebathbone · 01/07/2011 17:04

Elsie is the best.

minipie · 01/07/2011 17:06

My favourites are Elsa, Alexa, Nina and May.

(I prefer May to Mae, Mae makes me think of a hefty Texan woman)

Pippa is nice but not so keen on Philippa
Alice is ok
Florence is ok
Josephine I'm not keen on - sorry!

Any will go fine with DSs' names

Josephine is beautiful and I love the nn possibilities. I like Alice a lot, and also like Mae/May as a first name (have only come across it as mns).

wigglesrock · 01/07/2011 20:48

I love Nina, have 3dds and Nina has always floated around on my lists. I worked with a Mae and its a lovely name. I'm not a fan of Elsie, I know a baby Elsie and it always sounds a bit jarring.

brightcopperkettles · 02/07/2011 00:28

My favourites from your list are Josephine (love!), Elsa and Nina

Josephine -- love, and Posy is lovely as a nn.

Alice -- love as much as Josephine.

Philippa -- Yes the Middleton thing would put me off too.

Elsa/Elsie I love Elsa, dislike Elsie (milkmaid name). I don't think Elsa is like Ailsa good old-fashioned German name whereas Ailsa is Scottish.

Alexa -- I would only let you use Alexa if you promised very solemnly not to use Lexie as a NN. It is a stripper name.

Florence -- the copycat aspect is secondary to the stodginess imo.

Nina -- only if there is a chance she will be willowy, ballerina-ish, and not a tank of a girl.

Mae/May -- lovely as a first name imo, preferably spelled May.
