I've only ever met one, she's in her 30s. Sophie used to be very popular when I was young, but don't seem to meet so many now.

SloganLogan · 01/07/2011 14:17

I know one middle-aged Sophia, but no little Sophias.

breadandhoney · 01/07/2011 14:18

I have one (almost a year old) but I don't know any others. Sophie certainly seems more popular. Sophia is a little different and just beautiful :)

Awomancalledhorse · 01/07/2011 14:19
  1. One my age, one old lady & two girls under 5.
swanker · 01/07/2011 14:23

3 sophias and 3 sophies, all under 7.

ragged · 01/07/2011 14:24

One, age 5. Sophie was very popular about 10 yrs ago, though.

Tigerbomb · 01/07/2011 14:32

I know 3.

One is 12 months old
One is 2
The other is 6

littlenuttree · 01/07/2011 14:39

I have a Sophia, and she's fab! Grin I don't know any other Sophias, but know 3 Sophie's.

I've heard that it can be pronounced 'soph-eye-a' rather than 'soph-ee-a' so that could make it a wee bit different if you fancied? (Although my DM pronounces it 'sophie-a' despite being corrected a million times! Hmm)

mummytime · 01/07/2011 14:41

I know one little Sophie, but Sophia is even more of a hard name to live up to, as I believe it is the correct pronunciation of the greek word.

CharlieBoo · 01/07/2011 16:51

there is one in Ds's class who is 6, I know of 2 toddler Sophia's (friends of friends) and one baby one.....

I much prefer Sophie.

LawrieMarlow · 01/07/2011 16:55

I know a Sophia who is 7

meditrina · 01/07/2011 17:02

Five x Sophia/Sofia and four x Sophie.

meditrina · 01/07/2011 17:02

sorry - should have added, all primary school age.

emsies · 01/07/2011 17:19

Much prefer Sophie myself. THey will always be asked if it is Soph-ee - a or Soph- eye - a.

bluebump · 01/07/2011 17:20

2, both about 4 although one is a Sofia.

mousymouse · 01/07/2011 17:25

in my office are at least 15 (big office) and I know quite a few more other sophie/sophia in all age groups. how about other versions of that name like sonia?

wigglesrock · 01/07/2011 17:35

I have a Sofia - just turned 6, she's the only one in her primary school

pommedechocolat · 01/07/2011 17:52

Peter and Abby Crouch named their baby daughter Sophia...

kreecherlivesupstairs · 01/07/2011 18:04

I am aware of many more Sophie's than Sophia's. I really wanted the name Safiya for DD but a hideious spitefull woman who DH named her DD it the week before mine was born.

munstersmum · 01/07/2011 18:09

No Sophia's.
One Sophie.

mouseymouse do not want to out you but are you in UK? Amazed so many Sophies in your office.

mathanxiety · 02/07/2011 04:43

Ten Sophia/Sofias,and only one Sophie.

I love the name (and love Safiya too, Kreecher).

Sonia is nice too (Russian diminutive for Sofia). I love the Mexican name Xochitl (pr. SO-shee) and the Irish name Síofra (pr. SHEE-uh-fra)

iscream · 02/07/2011 05:11

I know 2, a baby and a 23 yr old. It is one of my favorite names.

The following names are from Substitutes for: Sophia
Seraphina ? a frilly princess name with recent starbaby appeal and an angelic meaning
Sapphira ? a pretty gemstone name, provided you can get over the slightly naughty namesake. (If you?re not familiar with the biblical story of Ananias and Sapphira, click here.)
Sephora ? a name with biblical roots. Sephora is the Greek form of Zipporah, Moses? wife.
Sonia (or Sonya or Sonja) ? a sweet Russian diminutive of Sophia that is familiar but far less common in the U.S.

If it?s the nickname ?Sophie? that really appeals to you, you might like:

Sophronia ? an Italian name meaning ?sensible? (which is certainly similar to ?wise?). Sophronia was coined by Italian poet Torquato Tasso in the 16th century. Though it?s elaborate, it shortens easily to Sophie.
