Help with old fashioned boys names.

We originally decided on Alfred Stanley and that is still front runner but both of us don't like NN Alfie as it is too popular so would probably try to use Fred. (but with surname makes him a famous scientist- although not many people would get ref so probably ok- not like our surname is flinstone!)

I also like Arthur, Archie, Oscar, Sebastian, Samuel but DH is vetoing them all as too "posh"- we like uncommon old mens names but need help coming up with them....

Any other ideas?

My DS is called Bobby which was my great Uncle's name. Not a common name either, I've only ever came across one other Bobby and he was actually a Robert.

My partner is Leopold, i have yet to come across with another one. It's a really cool name and not popular!

I have an Alfred and a Hugh. Alfred's shortening is definitely Fred or sometimes lengthened to Alfredo. Most of the time he is simply Alfred.

I think people were a bit "Oh right" at first. But now all the doubters think he suits it and lots of people who we meet who do not know us say what a nice old fashioned name.

His Great Nanny calls him Alf (!) and his grandparents (mil and fil) call him Alfie. They are big fans of Shirley Williams books and he does look a bit like Alfie in those, so that is fine. He is no way an Alfie to me though.

We know a little Stanley, Arthur, Wilfie, Walter and Albert (Bertie) too.

Oooh I love Hal and would have used it for DS.I also liked Edgar,but detested Ed/Eddie nn.Hugo,Stanhope could be possibles?
