Does Anyone Know A Pretty Female Version of Walter?

DD due in a few weeks time - I think we finally have a first name (possibly) but would quite like to find a middle name from DH's family. Our DSs both have family names.

FIL (Walter) passed away suddenly in January - just before we announced the pregnancy to family & it would be nice, if possible, to use his name in some form.

Have looked at a few websites but really not found anything helpful at all.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

I'm about ten years late. In my culture (Eritrea, Africa) the female name for Walter is Walta. My baby sister's name is Walta. 🇪🇷🇺🇸

Trelawny?
I quite like Wallis.
DeWalt?

Walter apparently means commander of the army. Thinking about it that way, equivalents could be Amira, Iolani, Geraldine, Frieda, Malika, Vlatka and many others.

RaoulDufysCat · 06/11/2021 00:44

Vladislava.

But Wallis does seem like a better option.

Matilda.
Waltzing Matilda.

There is an old-fashioned German name, Waltrud, that could work, but I know it’s not to everyone’s taste. I kind of like it but I don’t think any child would thank me for it.

midlifecrash · 06/11/2021 00:51

Or for more sound alike s maybe Valerie? Fallon?

bellabelly · 06/11/2021 00:53

Waleda?

CatonMat · 06/11/2021 00:58

Waltrina.

I love MelinaM's suggestion of Altair. I couldn't think of any nice feminine versions of Walter at all.

Poppins2016 · 06/11/2021 01:00

Some women add their maiden name as a second middle name and nobody bats an eyelid (then again I might be biased as this is common in my family). Could you treat Walter like a surname in style?

You could have: [feminine first name], [feminine middle name], Walter, [surname]

Oh damn zombie thread.

OP please come back and tell us what you chose.

Poppins2016 · 06/11/2021 01:04

Willa could be a name that gives a "nod" to Walter... but on the other hand, as someone said in another thread, why bother using a name in a tribute if you don't actually want to use the name itself... I'd probably stick to Walter for what it's worth.

Oh lord! A 2011 thread? Whoops.

RuthW · 06/11/2021 10:52

I would go with just Walter or Walta

I know a baby Walter

thegreylady · 06/11/2021 17:42

Waltrud is a German girl’s name.

Jossbow · 06/11/2021 18:13

What about removing the -er- and using an a?
Walta

Sound a a bit more feminine. Not sure its a good sounding name though!

WeasilyPleased · 06/11/2021 23:00
