Has Florence had it's day?

Always loved this name, and always planned to use it, but I hear the name ever such a lot lately.

How many do you know?

I know at least 2 aged 5/6yrs.

Also one who must be about 25 now -it was quite a Shock choice at the time I seem to remember as it hadn't come back in then

There are four in my children's school. It's the most popular girls' name in the school.

Oh, and I know of many more babies named Florence. It's very much on the up. Top 10 in 4 years I predict.

It feels very popular but I actually only know a couple. I know many more Matildas and Amelias.

Me and hub considering this name. Just read on a babynames.co.uk thats its predicted top 20 in time. its a little off putting it becoming so popular but personally i don't know a single Florence apart from my gran's gran.

Yes, it has exploded in popularity in the last year. Apart from the Camerons I know of 2 other baby Florences born in the last year.

I'm surprised actually because as nice as Florence sounds, its nicknames aren't that attractive (Flo, Florrie Hmm) and I also find it odd to name a child after an Italian city (unless, like Florence Nightingale, your dd was born there).

Our friends have just had one, I think its its gorgeous....

My son's Florence at pre-school was called Flossie for short...

Honestly don't know any, but then again its a down at heel area in the city I grew up in so that might be the reason or maybe its . Have you thought of Ermintrude for DD2?

If you love it you should go for it though, don't let the Camerons or MN put you off!

I know one who is 9 and one who is 6. There are no Florences in dd's school atm, and I don't think there is one in dd2's nursery either.

What about Flora?

It's a lovely name, traditional and pretty.

I know one, a little girl of about 8.
I like it but don't love it - the lack of nice nn would put me off. Flossie is a sheep surely...

To me it's stodgily Victorian (sorry) Don't like the short forms Flo or Florrie either.

Flora is quite nice. Although some may make the margarine association.
