Will Ivy become the new Evie/Eve?

Love the name Ivy. It's a real last minute idea and hasn't been on our list the whole pregnancy, but love it. It's quite similar to Evie/Eve which exploded in popularity where I am a few years ago. Do you think Ivy will go the same way or is it too old lady to become popular for a while do you think?

Also, do you know any Ivys, how old are they and what do you think of the name?

DD's middle name is Ivy, so obviously it's a huge favourite of mine :) but I only know one other Ivy who is around 2 years old, so far from popular. Gorgeous name!

It's really popular in Australia - top 50!

I know of 2 Ivys in the local area but I don't think it will be massive. I think that Edie is the new Evie personally.

I love ivy I know one and she is the most gorgeous little girl

So not popular round here (Bristol)

flopsy1974 · 20/06/2011 14:47

Not popular where I live - at least I don't know of any. Loads of Evie's and Lily's.

pedalpants · 20/06/2011 14:48

love it, and don't know any at all. would prefer it for a Xmas baby tho...

smother · 20/06/2011 15:18

I think it will keep growing and growing and spread everywhere like a weed........

MelinaM · 20/06/2011 18:07

I think floral names in general are slowly becoming more and more popular!

Love Ivy, it's on my shortlist for ths baby, due in December.

muminthemiddle · 20/06/2011 21:14

I don't know any Ivys.

puddle2 · 22/06/2011 08:26

Oh good - mostly likes and not too popular. I like that it is not common yet pretty and everyone knows it as a 'real' name.

Problem - our previous top contender was Holly. Obviously can only ever use one so which is better?!

My niece was going to be an Ivy and then became an Isobel! I think she should have been an Ivy - less prevalent, and, I think, sweeter. The fear was that it was too 'char-lady' like - her family are rather middle-class and worried about such things.

exoticfruits · 22/06/2011 09:18

I know a 2 yr old Ivy and a 70yr old Ivy. I think it is horrible-clinging Ivy, poison Ivy-I can't think why anyone would want to do it.

BowiesJumper · 22/06/2011 11:28

I know a five year old Ivy and a ninety year old Ivy (Great Aunt Ivy). It's a beautiful name.

Kyrie · 22/06/2011 11:43

I don't think it will ever get top ten popular like Eve / Evie. Poison Ivy will put a fair few people off.

exoticfruits · 22/06/2011 12:21

I should imagine it would have a small following, like Hilda, Winifred and Elsie and then slip off the bottom for another 100yrs. It is rather like saying 'will Brenda ever get to the top 10?'. (I would class it with Ethel and Mildred).

Showing my age but it makes me think of Ivy Brennan. And poison Ivy. Not keen. But then five years ago Lola to me was a showgirl with faded feathers in her hair and the dress she used to wear.

SloganLogan · 22/06/2011 20:11

Ivy is a lovely name. I don't think it will be "the new Eve/Evie".
