pronounced ClaREETA (we are not in UK) as middle name. Totally bonkers? It has family significance.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wineandcheese · 19/06/2011 17:25

Haven't heard that name before - where's it from, and is it well-known where you live?

meditrina · 19/06/2011 17:27

I've never heard it before either. But I think it would be fine in the middle.

Psammead · 19/06/2011 17:36

Well, it's made up.

The thing is, DD has both of my grandmother's names as her MN. They go together very well to form a new name. Think May + Daisy = Maisy or similar. Or Anne + Yvette = Annette.

So I would like to honour DH's grandmothers by combining their names, but it's not so neat and tidy as with mine. My best effort so far is Clarite.

It sounds like a breath mint. Sorry

wineisfine · 19/06/2011 17:39

Evokes facewash for problem skin for me, but depends where it'll be used... What are the names?

Psammead · 19/06/2011 17:41

Clara and Marguerite.

Arf @ facewash. The thought crossed my mind, too Grin

Personally - yurgh. Sounds like red wine or a cross between Clarks shoes and Startrite.

meditrina · 19/06/2011 17:43

Now I'm wondering what the names are! Could you give her two middle names?

One of my DCs has an unusual family name in the middle - so I think weird but significant is normal there.

wineandcheese · 19/06/2011 17:43

Oh they are beautiful names on their own! Can you use both as her first and second names? (Sorry, that probably isn't helpful...)

MmeLindor. · 19/06/2011 17:44

I think it sounds like a loo cleaner, sorry.

Clean your loo with Clarite, for a sparkly bowl.

Why not just use your DH's grannies names?

wineisfine · 19/06/2011 17:45

Oh they are gorgeous names though! If you were dead set on combining I'd cut them right down and go for Mara, otherwise have them both!

Mind you I can talk, DS1 has a very bizarre middle name combination as the relative we wanted to include requested that we also include their family name.

Psammead · 19/06/2011 17:47

DH only just about agrees to one middle name. Two would be giddy in the extreme Grin

I don't like either enough to use as a first name.

I think it's maybe time to think of something completely different and to hell with trying to crowbar family significance in!

Grin at some of these comments.

Ooh, hadn't thought of Mara.

I like them - I do. But there are names I like even more Grin

Claretta and Clarette are, apparently, real names. But it might sound as if you've been on the Wine

GrimmaTheNome · 19/06/2011 18:12

It sounds like a brand name for a clear plastic to me - a competitor for Lucite.

WizardofOs · 19/06/2011 18:14

I think it sounds like a minor semi-precious stone. The sort they sell jewellery made out of on QVC.

MadameCastafiore · 19/06/2011 18:19

Drain cleaner!

UndiscoveredApprentice · 19/06/2011 18:28

sounds like a drain cleaner.

What are the two names you are trying to combine, and we could try for you.

UndiscoveredApprentice · 19/06/2011 18:29

Sorry, just spotted the names above.

I would combine them as Mara, which I think is lovely.

basingstoke · 19/06/2011 18:29

Mara much better.

ensure · 19/06/2011 18:36

Mara works well!

Psammead · 19/06/2011 18:43

Thanks for the suggestion. MUCH better than Clarite

birdofthenorth · 20/06/2011 12:18

Mara sounds nice! Otherwise Clarita would be better spelling to my British eyes -Clarite looks like "Blairite" to me!
