Nina.

I am a child of the late 70s and every other girl I grew up with was called Emma. there were SEVEN in my year at school.

Emma

darleneoconnor · 18/06/2011 17:24

always Emma, Nina is like nee-naw, too easy to make fun of

straighttalker · 19/06/2011 00:29

Nina definitely.

Emma can sound a bit chavvy depending on accent. Emmm-mawww. Plus in university/high school, everyone will call her Emmers.

NadiaWadia · 19/06/2011 01:31

Like others have said, Nina is cool and a bit different.

Emma nice enough but a little dull, and there are loads of them!

spottyock · 19/06/2011 11:06

Don't like Nina at all. Totally think of a police car when I hear it. Also know of a very annoying Nina which makes me biased I know (think Davinia McCall on speed) and she was named after a page 3 girl!

Emma

ninah · 19/06/2011 11:18

I like Nina, one of my best friends at school was named that :) There are so many Emmas these days!

Idreamofsunshine · 19/06/2011 11:49

Nina. Emma is so boring.

Bandwitch · 19/06/2011 12:08

I prefer Nina, but I think, it's more fashionable right now than Emma. Emma is definitely more classic.

LaydeeC · 20/06/2011 00:04

Nina - definitely

cordyblue · 20/06/2011 00:11

Emma is such a BORING name. Go for something more interesting. Nina is much more interesting in comparison.

GrimmaTheNome · 20/06/2011 00:34

Emma. Its one of those names which doesn't define a person - it fits anyone from chav to bluebloods - so she can be herself.

Nina is OK too.

saffronwblue · 20/06/2011 00:39

I love Emma. Nina is somehow not a real name to me - I always wonder if it is short for something. ( no offence to all the great Ninas out there.)

MsChanandlerBong · 20/06/2011 09:16

I think they are both lovely names... but to me Emma is quite 'girl next door' whilst Nina is more 'cool and sophisticated'.

Bottleofbeer · 20/06/2011 10:46

Emma is a LOVELY name, not that I know anyone called it. Ahem.

Love, Emma :)

oohlaalaa · 20/06/2011 12:09

Emma

lurkerspeaks · 20/06/2011 19:00

I dislike Emma intensely despite it being one of my names and the name of my beloved great aunt. I never use it myself, in fact most people think the E stands for Elizabeth, I don't disabuse them of the notion.

That stupid radio 1 jingle from the 1990s "Emmas are evil" always plays through my head.

I much prefer Nina.
