Just curious about first impressions.

Girl, despite never having watched Dynasty.

manicinsomniac · 14/06/2011 13:26

Instinctively I think boy but I know it's a top ranking girls' name in America

LaWeasel · 14/06/2011 13:38

Oh dear.

Right - I think I will have to give up on Alexis then. I just don't like it for a girl, and seems like it might cause too much confusion to name a boy Alexis...

Girl.

sophiesmummie · 14/06/2011 13:49

I only know male Alexis'. But lots of names are unisex these days
Rowan
Sam
Alex
Elliot
Lesley
Sasha (becoming more female)
So I wouldn't worry about that aspect if you love the name.

sophiesmummie · 14/06/2011 13:50

And I know a little Russian boy called Alexei.

niceday · 14/06/2011 13:51

Boy

tammytoby · 14/06/2011 14:00

I know a boy called Alexis, but I suppose it could be a girls name too. Personally I prefer more feminine ending names for girls, so I'd prefer it for a boy.

stillstanding · 14/06/2011 14:01

definitely girl

Lauralastic · 14/06/2011 14:02

My DH is called Alexis. He hates the Dynasty connection as that happened jus as he started school. He is known as Lex now, better being associated with the superman baddie apparently! Grin

MelinaM · 14/06/2011 16:35

Definitely a girls names, Alexey for a boy?

PartialToACupOfMilo · 14/06/2011 21:42

I automatically thought boy too - and Russian.
I'm obviously wrong judging by how many people said 'girl', but I would have thought that just Alex was a more unisex version Confused

SloganLogan · 15/06/2011 22:40

Girl (Dallas!)

Domesticbodess · 16/06/2011 10:03

girl. I did know a boy called Alexis but he bent over backwards to be known as Alex.

FairyArmadillo · 16/06/2011 10:10

Girl. I grew up in the 80s.

Nooooo! It's a boy's name and has only been used for girls since Dynasty. All the people who say it's a girl's name are wrong Wink

WhollyGhost · 16/06/2011 11:26

Definitely boy

LucretiaInShadows · 16/06/2011 13:17

Definitely boy! I used to go out with a Greek Alexis. It sounds as wrong for a girl as calling her Dave, to me.

PestoCaffeinisto · 16/06/2011 13:28

Alexis = boy

Alexa = girl

simples

bigbluebump · 16/06/2011 13:33

It sounds masculine to my ears.

BettyDrapersWardrobeElf · 16/06/2011 14:07

Boy. I've only ever known one Alexis and he was a boy. I've also known a female Alexi though.

topazmcgonagall · 17/06/2011 00:19

Boy.

islanzadi · 05/07/2011 01:35

girl definitely.

Matildarabbit · 05/07/2011 01:56
