If we like Gwennan and Siobhan, what else will we like?

DH has finally come up with two names that he likes.

Gwennan is out of the question, as good friends have used Gwendolen. It is too similar.

Siobhan is out of the question, as we are Welsh and English. I just do not feel a very Irish name, such as Siobhan, would feel "us".

We do not mind a Welsh or English girls name. I'm English, DH is Welsh (with an English surname).

Siwan is very pretty. I think we'd be spelling it all the time, and telling people how to pronouce it.

We like the name Suranne, but it just doesnt flow with our surname.

Sioned is also nice, but would be having too spell it, all the time.

DH finds more than two syllables poncey!!! I dont agree with him here. We do both prefer short names. I love the name Esme, but it just doesnt flow with our surname.

On the list so far, for DH to consider, is:

Faye (he hates this - considers the name weak sounding)
Lara (he thinks its okay)
Carrie (hes not convinced - doesnt consider it a proper name)
Elin (not yet discussed)
Caron (not yet discussed)
Zara (not yet discussed)

DH loves Seren, and has also suggested Gwennan and Siobhan. All of which I have ruled out.

I'm not that keen on names starting with R. I used to have problems pronoucing R when I was younger, and dont want to inflict an R name on my child, just in case she is like me. I still struggle to pronouce Rhyl.

I'm surprised you are ruling out Sian, because isn't it the Welsh version of Jane?

ohhlaalaa - I have the same problem with 'R'. Lucky you to have a name without an "r' in it!

That was my main criteria for choosing a baby name, something without an R.

I didnt know Sian was welsh Jane. I like the name Sian. I just know so many. In my mind it doesnt flow with our surname either.

Spoken to DH, and he doesnt like Elin. Caron he quite likes, I'm not so sure about it. He quite likes Zara, but spelt with an S - Sara. DH has also said he prefers Cara to Lara.

Glad I'm not the only one with R issues.

I like Mari, and love the name Marianne. DH hates Marianne.

I think Cari is turkish, and looks incomplete to me. I prefer Carrie spelling.

DH likes Clara, but I dont like the name. It is a nice name, just inexplicably dont like it.

Names can be so difficult.

Lowri also fits with your syllable rule but looks longer and prettier than some of the very short names you have, might look nicer than two four-letter names put together?

Pronounced low-ree rather than lau-ree.

I recall DH suggested Ceri, when I came up with Kerry ages ago, saying it should have the welsh spelling rather than chavvy spelling. I couldnt remember welsh spelling when I suggested it earlier.

I think DH changed his mind about the name, saying that it didnt sound a grown-up name to him.

All good names. Tara too posh. Erin is just too harsh sounding to me. Esther is nice, but the s sound does not flow with our surname.

No, DH loves Arwen, but I do not. We find plenty of names one of us loves, but not a name we both love.
