Our ds, almost 3 months now, is called Quentin Charles.

We've all been calling him lots different names - Quen, Quenny, Quinn, Quinny, Charlie and Quentin. DH likes Quinn whereas I prefer Quentin and dd loves Charlie (from Charlie & Lola), so I thought I'd ask whether you had any strong views as to which nickname to 'encourage' Smile?

I like Quinn.

acatcalledbob · 10/06/2011 14:18

With time you'll find that one nn is used over the others. I don't think you can choose a nn, it's normally something that comes naturally, that's the whole point, otherwise it's just another name Grin

SloganLogan · 10/06/2011 15:12

Charlie

Cattleprod · 10/06/2011 15:17

Tinny?

Or just 'Q' would be a really cool nickname!

Quinn is a bit too similar to quim imo.

sophiesmummie · 10/06/2011 15:44

Thanks all. Tinny is cute - hadn't thought of that. Q is cool too but wouldn't be a 'proper' nickname that he could use at school (I mean, it would be just an initial Smile). I had to look up the meaning of Quim Blush but would Quin (with one n) still be similar - I mean the n and m sound quite different to most people, don't they?

I also like Charlie but there are so many around including in our circle of friends, so I'd prefer to use a variant of Quentin if possible.

I found with both dcs that whichever nn I used was the one which stuck. I think due to thd fact that I was the main carer and so introduced them myself mostly. Plus I write all thd thank you cards, Xmas cards etc and now everyone we know calls both dcs by the nicknames I used. Dh even uses them now!
So if you prefer quentin then stick with it and I guarantee that's what he will end up as!
I do like Quinn though personally.

meditrina · 10/06/2011 16:13

Quinn, to me, is a wholly separate name. Two syllables seems OK for day to day use, so I'd stick with Quentin (maybe letting it abbreviate to Quenn/y in speech). Or go all James Bond and have "Q"

ChippyMinton · 10/06/2011 16:23

Quent?

meditrina · 10/06/2011 17:10

Quent might be OK - except to readers of 18th century literature as "queynte" = cunt.

ChippyMinton · 10/06/2011 17:33
Shock
LetThereBeRock · 10/06/2011 17:34

Quentin. It's much too nice to be shortened. Quinn is a completely different name.

quirrelquarrel · 10/06/2011 18:25

Love Quinn.

I don't think it's that different.

deste · 11/06/2011 23:21

I bet if you left it the boys at school would shorten it to Tony.

Trinaluce · 11/06/2011 23:43

Q - or QC :)

MelinaM · 12/06/2011 00:04

Quinn I think of as a female name, and so will a lot of other people due to the popularity of that Glee programme, Quentin is a lovely name as it isSmile

5DollarShake · 12/06/2011 03:37

My BF's brother is Quentin and known universally as Q.

rachel1970 · 12/06/2011 12:05

I wouldn't shorten it, although Quinn is cute for when he's smaller.

chimchar · 12/06/2011 12:12

Tin tin would be my first chioice. Smile

chimchar · 12/06/2011 12:13

Meant to add, I was in school with a quentin and his name was never shortened.

PatriciatheStripper · 12/06/2011 12:58

Me too, no Quentin in my knowledge or acquaintance has been called anything else.

MsTeak · 12/06/2011 15:44

I knew a Quentin and he was known as Tin-Tin!

rachel1970 · 12/06/2011 15:46

Actually I know a Tintin but never knew what his real name was - maybe it as Quentin...? But it could also be Justin or Martin I guess.

thursday · 13/06/2011 00:31

Quentin is great, i think Quinn is a good abbreviation, or just Quent. i wouldnt go with Charlie though, seems a massive shame to give the boy a lovely unusual name and then use a really common one!

fraktious · 13/06/2011 02:41

I know I Quentin called Ken by his family.
