When I was pregnant with my daughter I really wanted to name her Calypso. It was opposed from every corner and I gave up. I don't regret this as I love my daughters' name but I often think, if I could give her a sister it would be Calypso. Anybody have a regret?

lots, i was denied 90% of my name choices because i have appalling taste, which led to my daughter having the wrong name, starting to get used to it now though.

i wanted Caspian for my son, and Hera for my daughter, or Scout.

I loved Gabriel for DS1 but everyone told me how awful it was and exH would never agree. I always regretted it even though I love DS1's name.

DS2 is Gabriel :o DP loved it just as much as me.

I'm glad I'm not pregnant or I'd probably use this thread for inspiration. I love out there names. I wanted to call DS2 Bodhi or Zebedee. DH loves Ariel for a girl.

I really wanted to call DS1 Indiana. Then Morten, and Magnus. We didn't...

If we'd had a girl I wanted Arianwen. Now am thinking if we ever have another baby and it's a girl I might call her Boudicca. Grin

I know an Arwen, and a Krystal, and a Gabriel, and an Anakin(middle name though), and a Shadow, and probably more on this list. So probably quite a lot of 'brave' parents about.

I really liked Marmaduke though. 'The Duke', would be terribly cute.

I really like the names Nan (think Little Men - thanks, American classics!) and Peta for a girl, but haven't even suggested them over dinner, as DH would spit his food all over me in disgust. Shame.

Gaia and Tallulah, DD2 ended up with a beautiful but very 'normal' name, don't regret it so much as I love the name she has but think she looks/behaves more like a Tally.

boys names we like were Reuben and Gabriel but everyone we suggested these to either laughed or screwed their noses up.

mrsravelstein Grin at Sufjan!

I'm all in favour of 'out there' names. I think people should choose with their hearts and not worry about what others think. Mine all have so called 'unusual names'
In DS2's class is a 'Tyrese', a 'Margaret' and a 'Rainbow', none of the other kids think anything of it at all.

I rather like the name Amadeus. I would never inflict it on my son, however. :)

Sorry, double posting due to newbie cluelessness. Can someone remove the duplicate?

Amadeus is lovely. I think Boris Becker named his latest son Amadeus.

I wanted Jacaranda or Naivasha for DD's middle name but didn't have the nerve.

My mum met a baby boy called Badger once.

I love most of these names and have been lucky enough that the way out names I liked I called my children!!

Although if we were to have another boy I would have Oberon or Humphrey.
