I like the nn but not crazy about the full name - any suggestions?

I think (but not pushed it, slowly slowly catchy monkey) that I have convinced DH to go with Sukie for our DD. However, I certainly want a proper name on the birth cert. Traditionally it is short for Susan and versions of that name. I quite like Susannah, it is fine but fine isn't ideal is it? Anyone got any suggestions of other names which could be shortened to Sukie? I know Sukie isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea but no negative comments about that please - I love it thanks!

I'm a Jennifer, always known as Jenny or Jen but I like having the option to use Jennifer, which I do on official stuff.
It just sounds better I think.

We also thought that it would be good for DD (Beth) to have a formal option to chose from. However we had the OPs problem in that we didn't like some of the nicknames associated with the formal version (Elizabeth - Liz/Lizzy). We were lucky enough that there was another formal option and we went with that (Bethany).

She tends to flick between whether or not she wants to be called Beth or Bethany and I'm glad we gave her the option.

I personally wouldn't put a shortened name / nickname on the birth certificate and agree that naming her Susannah would give her more options. Sukie's pretty unusual, so people are bound to ask you/her about it and I think it's nicer to be able to explain that it's short for Susannah/Susan rather than say it's out of Polly put the kettle on. But I'm an old fuddy-duddy in these matters and loads of people put short forms on BCs these days!

I was at university with a Suky - I think she was just Suky. She was British/Irish, I think. And DD is at school with a Suki - don't think that's short for anything, either - and she's British, too.

I think that you should use Susannah because it is a beautiful name, which woudl suit a variety of different personalities. Sukie to me is a sweet name for a toddler or the sort of name that a teenager might use for a few years when they were wanting to be very cool. I don't see if as being a forever name.

There don't seem to be very many names with a "su" sound that aren't a variation of Susan/Susanna maybe Sunday or Summer? At a stretch Ursula?

I love it, I wouldn't put a longer version on bc either.
Btw are you a true blood fan? :)

As someone who only ever goes by their shortened/nn name, I would still say go for Susannah. It's a lovely name and I'm all for giving them the option to choose the more traditional name, if they prefer. I am known by everyone as my nn, which is unisex and quite casual, but my proper name is much more feminine/formal. I really like having that choice, for some reason, even though I never really use it...

Love the name but prefer the Souki spelling.
