Daphne or Primrose - sister for Violet

dapperflapper · 01/06/2011 14:03

2 days overdue - sweep this morning - as yet no effect...been checking out sweep threads
dh and I have pretty much decided on Daphne if stubborn little bump is a girl
but I recently stumbled across the thread about Primrose - have (annoyingly) rather fallen in love with it - and now I'm throwing it in as a wild card.
Which do you prefer as a sister for Violet?
If you prefer Primrose, is it too twee with or a charming complement to Violet?
My last call...

Dooinmeclean- some good name suggestions on that link!

PiaFedora · 01/06/2011 16:52

Doonin that was what I said - glad I'm not the only one who watches kids tv Blush

Checkmate · 01/06/2011 16:55

I really like both Daphne and Primrose, but to match Violet I think Daphne a bit better because of aforementioned flowertot issue!

LetThereBeRock · 01/06/2011 17:18

Neither. Daphne is an incredibly ugly name, and Primrose is much too twee.

tiptoptally · 01/06/2011 20:03

No wonder baby doesn't want to be born, knowing that she's going to be called Daphne or Primrose!!

Both are diabolical, though Daphne marginally less so.

What about Louise, Sorrell, Flora or Isabel?

joeuseless · 01/06/2011 20:09

i quite like primrose but you would need a certain personality to pull it off imo and with violet it's a bit too themed for my taste

i have soft spot for daphne and would definitely use it over primrose

LynetteScavo · 01/06/2011 20:11

Primrose.

PatriciatheStripper · 01/06/2011 20:14

The only Primrose I can call to mind was Dr Harold Shipman's missis. Biscuit

pilates · 01/06/2011 20:16

Primrose

no1childminder · 01/06/2011 20:20

What about Eden?

Trying to stick to the 'garden' theme.

Let me know what you think. I think its such a pretty name.

Lauralastic · 01/06/2011 20:32

I was an Assistant Rainbow leader once (part of the girl guiding movement) and was called both Primrose and Marigold at different times. The leader was Bluebell.

PorkChopSter · 01/06/2011 21:33

You can get purple primroses Wink

activate · 01/06/2011 21:34

I would totally avoid any additional flower names because it is too twee

Daphne is a great name though

deste · 01/06/2011 23:02

Anyone with Scottish connections will just think of Daphne Broon I doubt if anyone on here who likes Daphne is Scottish. Look up The Broons and see if you still like it.

dapperflapper · 02/06/2011 06:13

Well, it seems Daphne gets the vote. Dh would have to be convinced re Primrose anyway and I had already considered the flowertots. We think Daphne's a gorgeous name and are not at all put off by Daphne Broon, for every negative association there are many positive, it's all about creating the new associations with your child!

Tiptoptotally, it's horses for courses! Louise is my middle name but I would find it a rather dull name for a baby. Isabel nice but dd would not be the only one we know with that name, which is what we want. Baby is actually due today according to my original calculations rather than scan date, I am sure any delay has nothing to do with our choice of name Smile - could also be a boy anyway. So excited about meeting him/her!!

childminder - not sure about Eden, as it is not an established name, I have met a lovely child with that name, though. If you really love it - go for it!

Violet is a lovely name and very cool.

Primrose and Daphne are both awful and twee - neither of them complement Violet, they just drag Violet down with them.

You need another cool name and probably not a floral one.

flimflammery · 02/06/2011 06:42

What if you name her Primrose and then when she grows up she wants to be a formula 1 driver or a barrister or something? It's labelling her a little-girly all her life. Don't do it!

Quenelle · 02/06/2011 13:21

Yes think of nominative determinism.

However, I think an F1 driver called Daphne would be terrific Grin

You've gone quiet OP, anything happening?

Hatterbox · 02/06/2011 14:11

I love, love, love Primrose.

loobylu3 · 03/06/2011 12:47

Daphne is much better to go with sister Violet. I am not a fan of themed sibsets as it can sound a little twee.
I do like the name Primrose but I think that it could be a hard name to carry as a teenager.
Have you considered Daphne Primrose?

frazzle26 · 03/06/2011 12:50

They both sound a bit grannyish

dapperflapper · 12/06/2011 15:01

Update - turned out to be a`(not so) little girl - 9lb 9ozs - born a week yesterday, still a bit ouch after a forceps delivery, but dd truly beautiful - like her sister Violet - and really suits her name - Daphne. We are still deciding on a middle name.

At the moment it could be

Daphne Rachel ( after her great grandma)
Daphne Olaide ( to celebrate Nigerian heritage on her father's side)
any other suggestions welcome - I have posted here before but...

ZZZenAgain · 12/06/2011 15:03

she is strapping. Congratulations! I think the middle name is not hugely important since it rarely comes to light in every day light. Difficult to get it wrong IMO

SloganLogan · 12/06/2011 15:12

Daphne Rachel would be very pretty.

How do you pronounce Olaide?
